Goals and Intentions: Getting specific

Tuesday, November 29th, 2005

I came across a great quote this morning:

You cannot make it as a wandering generality. You must become a meaningful specific. - Zig Ziglar

Love that! How specific are you about your goals and intentions? Have you taken the time to develop a clear, strong vision for what you want? You probably won’t create anything of worth in your life until you know what it is you’d like to create.

Imagine getting into your car or jumping on a plane and going “somewhere.” If you don’t choose a specific destination, you probably won’t get there. Oh sure, you’ll probably still end up somewhere interesting, maybe even exciting. But is it where you REALLY want to be?

If you develop a laser focus on what you want, you have a much better chance of creating it in your life. We are heading into the last month of 2005. This would be a great time to sit quietly and come up with some goals and intentions for 2006.

What would you like to create for yourself in the New Year? Your only limitations are those you place on yourself. Dare to dream big! Make a list of the things you want to bring into your life, whether it’s more money, a better job, meeting Mr. or Ms. Right, buying a house, or whatever else you can think of. Don’t hold back, just write down everything you’d like to achieve. And then under each of those things, list 5 action steps you can take to begin moving toward those dreams.

Then comes the hard part. Actually take a step toward your heart’s desires. I know it can be scary, but you can do it if you just gather your courage and release your expectations for the outcome. Just enjoy the journey and have fun with it. It’s all good. :-)
