More Law of Attraction Questions

Posted at 1:09 pm under Law of Attraction

Diane wrote to me with some awesome questions about the Law of Attraction, and asked if I would give my view on them. Keep in mind that I’m still learning along with the rest of you, so I’ll answer based on the knowledge or insights I think I have so far. ;-)

Does one bad day ruin all our hard work?
“Does one bad day, from either being in pain or wanting to have a pity party (I’m not having a pity party, but am in pain today and cannot get my thoughts to vibrate more lightly) ruin days/weeks/years worth of vibration work? In order words, do we have to start fresh the next day, all over, or do negative thoughts/emotions take a while to deplete the energy work we’ve built up around us? I seem to find conflicting info on this.”

That is a great question! No, I don’t think one bad day can ruin the progress we’ve made. From my own experiences and the information I’ve read on this, it takes time to “build up” the energy one way or another. As much as I do believe that we have control over our thoughts, I also think it’s unrealistic to expect ourselves to feel joyful and happy ALL the time. Sure, we should strive for that, but if we have a bad day, or we’re in pain, we should acknowledge that and be okay with it rather than beating ourselves up for not being perfect enough, etc.

Probably the best and healthiest approach to a situation like this is to be gentle on ourselves. We could have a nice little talk with ourselves and say, “Okay, I don’t feel well, and my day seems to be going downhill no matter what I do, but it’s okay. It won’t be like this forever, so I’m just going to do the best I can and tomorrow will be much better. I still choose to attract more positive experiences into my life, even if it takes awhile for them to show up.”

I think taking a positive outlook like that DESPITE the negative stuff can be much more powerful than denying our feelings or trying to run away from them without dealing with them.

Chemically-Induced Altered States
“Any idea why when I take my pain medication it puts me in a higher vibration feeling, an altered state sort of like meditation? I wonder what Abraham would have to say about that.”

Hmmm! Very good question. I haven’t gotten too far reading Ask and It Is Given, so I can’t say for sure what Abraham would say about chemically-induced altered states. Somehow, I don’t think it would be good. Don’t get me wrong, you should take the medication if you need it for pain, obviously! But taking it just for the altered state I think achieves the opposite effect we’re going for, and here’s why I think that.

Any type of mood-altering or mind-altering substance (like alcohol, drugs, caffeine, sugar, nicotene, etc.) disconnects us from our higher self. It puts us into an altered state that *seems* like the state we achieve through meditation, but it’s an illusion because we’re partially shut down or tuned out from our inner wisdom. The drug works by numbing our pain sensors so we feel better, but it’s not a NATURAL state of well-being.

Having said that, I do know that many ancient cultures (and even some modern ones) used mood-altering and mind-altering substances (like mushrooms or various herbs) to attain altered states. It was believed that this helped to remove inhibitions and fears, and elevate them to a heightened spiritual state. I can believe this works, I’m just not convinced that it’s necessary or healthy if done too much, simply because of the effect these substances have on our physical bodies.

It’s a complex situation, for sure. Maybe there are benefits that I’m not aware of, but my gut says we can develop a much clearer and stable spiritual connection through meditation and mind-strengthening alone! But others may feel differently on the subject.
