I’ve been tagged by Ophelia and Shauna from Breathing Prosperity to share my daily success habits with you.
This is a neat idea conceived by Aaron at Today is that Day.
I’ll also be tagging some other bloggers to participate, so read the end of this post to see if you’re next!
Aaron wants me to “list the top 5 to 10 things you do almost every day that help you to be successful. They can be anything at all, but they have to be things you do at least 4 or 5 times every week.”
Okay, here you go Aaron, Ophelia and Shauna:
1) Look for the positive side of all situations. When I’m faced with challenges in my work (or my life, for that matter), I try hard to keep focused on the positive. Rather than seeing my challenges as a blockage to what I want, I look for a potential lesson I can learn, or a way to use the challenge to my advantage. Sometimes it takes me awhile to get there mentally, but this habit continues to serve me daily in many ways.
2) Plan, plan, plan. I am a natural born planner! Whether I’m composing an article, blog post, e-book, newsletter or grocery list, I’m always thinking ahead to the next step. This is an excellent habit because it helps me to see the big picture, beyond the little things I’m doing today. I ask myself where my current plans will take me in the long-run, and I brainstorm ideas to make my actions more focused. I’m also a big fan of making alternate plans. If Plan A doesn’t work out, what will I do then? And if Plan B doesn’t work out, what other actions can I take? Always think ahead, and you’ll always know where you’re going - and what you’ll be doing when you get there.
3) Get up early. I love to get out of bed early and get a jump start on my day. Of course, this only works if I’ve gone to bed early enough the night before - otherwise I’m cranky.
But I definitely notice a huge boost in productivity when I get an early start, and I feel like I have more time to relax and recharge because I can quit earlier than I would if I started working later in the morning.
4) Believe in what you do. I always joke that if I didn’t passionately believe in my work I would have ditched it long ago. Being a freelancer, entrepreneur, internet business owner - or whatever self-employment model you can think of - is fraught with tension, anxiety, frustration, fatigue and long hours. But if you’re doing something that truly makes your heart sing, you get to a point where you can’t NOT do it! It’s too much a part of who you are, so you push on because you know that nothing else will truly make you happy.
5) Believe in your ability to do it. This is one I struggled with for years and years, and I held myself back out of a fear of failure. Now I’ve created a daily habit of affirming that I can do anything I set my mind to. When I hear an inner excuse pop up, I address it immediately, and I also have a set of affirmations I recite aloud morning and evening that help keep me in a more confident “I can do it” mind-set.
6) Stay mindful of the process. I’m one of those people who has a slight *cough cough* issue with being patient. haha! I remind myself daily that I don’t have to accomplish EVERYTHING right now. Success is a process of steadily growing and achieving more and more! It’s about pushing past your comfort zones one step at a time, rather than going from zero to sixty in 3 seconds. It’s an inner process of BECOMING, and therefore takes time.
7) Quiet time is crucial. As an introspective person, I MUST have some quiet time to myself each day. Without it, I end up feeling very disconnected and stressed. Even 30 minutes to myself before bed to quiet my mind does wonders for me, but I also frequently slip away during the day to just breathe and “be” if I feel scattered.
Keep learning and growing. I consider myself lucky to be a voracious reader because it keeps my mind open and thirsty for new information. I am always reading a book or two (or more) in print, and I regularly purchase e-books pertaining to business or personal development. Here are the last 5 books I read (or am still reading):
- Hypnotic Writing by Joe Vitale
- Excuse Me, Your Life Is Waiting by Lynn Grabhorn
- The Midas Method by Stuart Goldsmith
- The Holographic Universe by Michael Talbot
- Wealth Beyond Reason by Bob Doyle
9) Baby steps, baby steps. I love the “baby steps” scene from the movie, “What About Bob?” Bill Murray plays the character of Bob, a neurotic and terrified patient with phobias galore. Richard Dreyfuss plays Bob’s psychiatrist, and he instructs Bob to “baby step” whenever he’s facing something scary. Bob leaves the doctor’s office reciting to himself over and over, “Baby stepping down the hallway, baby stepping to the elevator, baby stepping…baby stepping…” It’s a cute scene and a cute movie, but it’s also a strong reminder that we can take it slow and baby-step our way to success! If you feel intimidated by something, try taking one SMALL action and see what happens. Usually, you’ll realize that there is nothing to be afraid of, and you’re able to take another step, and another.
10) Remember what you’re working so hard for. It’s too easy to dive into your goals and forget what you were trying to accomplish in the first place! When I first decided to strike out on my own and create a career I love, my reasons for doing so were to have more control over my time, to do work that was fulfilling and satisfying, to have more control over my income, and to be able to enjoy my life more. But none of that is possible if I’m working 24/7! It took me awhile to fully get that, but now I make a habit of taking time to enjoy life. Stop and smell the roses once in a while and your life will be much sweeter.
I could go on, but I’d say those are my top 10 daily success habits. Thanks to Aaron at Today is that Day for posing this challenge, and thanks to Ophelia and Shauna from Breathing Prosperity for tagging me to participate!

The more we learn about the Law of Attraction, the more we understand the importance of choosing to spend more time feeling good and less time feeling bad. From watching movies like the Secret, we know the importance of “feeling good” because we vibrate according to our emotions.
While this may seem like a simple concept at first glance, applying it to our lives can often seem like an impossible challenge.
We all have days when we naturally feel good. You can probably recall a day or two when you woke up feeling energized and excited about the day ahead of you, or perhaps you can remember a few experiences when you found yourself humming for no particular reason.
But let’s be honest: how often do those days happen? For most of us, not very.
I’d venture a guess that most of us live our lives in an emotional void of numbness, while occasionally venturing into positive or negative emotions. Think about it: much of the time we’re not aware that we’re “feeling” anything. We simply focus on what we have to do and go about our days in a state of emotional disconnection. Like everyone else, we’re on autopilot until something happens that moves us in one direction or another.
A vehicle breakdown, a fight with our spouse, the birth of a baby in the family, or perhaps happy surprise at bumping into an old friend - these experiences shake us out of our numbness and remind us that we are indeed emotional creatures.
If it’s true that we attract experiences according to the “vibrations” we send out to the universe and those vibrations are created (or activated) by our emotions, we are faced with a major challenge: how do we stay focused on positive emotions, and turn our attention away from negative emotions? How do we learn to disregard minor (and major) aggravation in our lives and become conscious creators by focusing more on the positive?
This was the topic of an excellent book I read recently: “Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting,” by Lynn Grabhorn. With a practical and easy-to-read (not to mention downright humorous) style, Ms. Grabhorn provides a simple process for “flowing energy” in the right direction.
In fact, the book actually got my emotions flowing even as I was reading it! I found myself laughing out loud and having little “aha!” moments every few pages. Even knowing as much as I like to think I know about the Law of Attraction, this book was a great wake-up call for me, in more ways than one.
First, the way the book arrived in my hands was very Law-of-Attraction-ish!
I’d heard this book mentioned in various online discussion forums, and the people who had read it raved about it. I made a mental note to get a copy of the book, but as with so many other things I intend to do, I never got around to it.
Then one day I received an email with the title of the book as the subject. Intrigued, I opened the email and found a nice letter from a woman named Yolanda Carden, a publicist for FSB Associates. Yolanda wanted to know if I’d be interested in reading Ms. Grabhorn’s book and reviewing it for my website and blog readers. Why, yes I WOULD, Yolanda, thank you! (I joked with Yolanda that the universe must be working through her to get me to read this book! LOL) Yolanda popped a copy of the book in the mail for me, and voila - my intention to read the book was fulfilled!
Let’s pause for a moment and examine this because it’s an important part of learning how to use the Law of Attraction in your own life. I wanted to read this book. I set an intention to read the book. I let go of it (not even really on purpose, I just didn’t do anything about my intention). The universe found a way to deliver the book directly into my hands. I didn’t even have to leave my house, it was delivered to my doorstep! How amazing and funny is that?
This experience is a great example of detaching from the outcome and letting the universe work on my behalf. I didn’t feel inspired to take action in this situation, and I didn’t need to. It could have easily gone the other way too, of course. I could have been driving along one day and felt compelled to pull into the parking lot of my local bookstore, and Ms. Grabhorn’s book would have jumped out at me from the shelf. Stranger things have happened.
Besides receiving the book in an unusual way (which was amazing enough), it turns out the universe had another surprise in store for me. For the preceding few months before I received this book, I had been existing in a kind of emotional void like I described above. I wasn’t unhappy or frustrated, but neither was I enthusiastic or joyful. I was working a lot of hours, trying to get some new projects going, and I was spending a lot of time on activities that weren’t exactly thrilling.
I didn’t notice it at the time but I had been sinking slowly and steadily into a sense of mundane obligation and drudgery. I awoke each morning with a to-do list running through my head, and my days were spent in a fog of “gotta’s”.
However, the further I got into reading, “Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting,” the more I seemed to awaken from my emotionless slumber. I realized that it’s not enough to avoid focusing on the negative. That’s a great start, but it’s not the end. Ms. Grabhorn illustrates the importance of learning to consciously “flow” our energy toward what we want, consistently and effectively.
If I could share with you the most profound insight I got from this book, it would be this: We have to choose. In fact, we ARE choosing, every moment of every day. Just because we don’t consider ourselves to be “negative” people, we still might not be taking an active, conscious role in creating the lives we want. We can, though.
Sadly, Lynn Grabhorn passed away in 2004, but other great writers have picked up her torch and continued with the “Excuse Me” concept. There are books like, “Excuse Me, Your Job is Waiting,” by Laura George; and “Excuse Me, Your Life is Now,” by Doreen Banaszak (available August 2007). Ms. Grabhorn also wrote a neat companion workbook (PLAYbook!) for “Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting”, and I also discovered that there’s an online course too! (Where have I been that I didn’t know all this? ;-))
If you’ve been struggling with the concept of feelings and the Law of Attraction, “Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting” is a MUST READ. It will open your eyes and your mind to the power of emotions - and give you the awareness to choose them for maximum effectiveness.
In the meantime, make a conscious effort to choose how you feel - and you will choose what you experience!

I received a nice email from a man named Stephen Hopson the other day. He had stumbled upon my website while looking for Law of Attraction articles, and wrote with some very nice compliments about my LOA articles. He even did a nice mention of my website in his blog (thanks Stephen!).
When I hopped over to his website to learn more about him, I was impressed with what I found. Here is a man who left a successful career as a Wall Street stockbroker to become a motivational speaker, writer and pilot. That’s impressive enough - it takes a big leap of faith to do something like that.
But when you also consider that Stephen has been deaf since birth, his story becomes even more inspiring!
When I encounter people like Stephen I’m forced to take a deeper look at the challenges before me and ask myself if they’re really as daunting as they seem.
You see, I often take on the role of “Queen of Excuses”. Don’t get me wrong, I’m proud of the things I’ve accomplished in my life so far, but if I want to be truly honest with myself, I have to admit that I hold myself back far more often than I should. Any little bump in the road is a good excuse to sit down and stop trying. I know I’m not alone in that nasty little habit!
Reading Stephen’s story gave me a great moment of clarity, and I want to pass along the same to you today.
Whether you are working with a physical limitation, a fear, a phobia, or anything else that could possibly serve as an excuse - don’t let it! Adversity is only what you make of it. (In fact, that’s Stephen’s whole premise in his work - changing the way we look at adversity.)
Take a look at Stephen’s website, he’s got some great articles there, and also bookmark his blog: Adversity University (love that name)!
Most importantly, let Stephen’s courage and determination stand as a shining example of your own capabilities in life. I certainly am.
