What, where, when, how - oops!

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Intentions can be tricky things sometimes! I got an email this morning from a woman who wants to remain anonymous. She did give me permission to share the gist of her situation on my blog, which is this: she’s been trying desperately to create a career in a specific field for more than a year now, but nothing is happening. She wrote to ask my advice, if there was anything I could see that she was doing wrong.

Uh, yeah, one thing jumped out at me right away - she’s trying to control “HOW” this situation comes into being! Rather than just focusing on the end result, she’s setting intentions for all the steps that happen between here and there. I won’t go into a lot of detail about it because it doesn’t really matter for the purposes of this post, but she had a linear view of exactly what needed to happen first, second, third, and so on - to get to her desired end result.

I explained that she needed to let go of “HOW” this all comes about, and focus only on the end result. Let the universe take care of all the stuff in between - and it probably won’t happen the way she’s expecting it to happen! ;-) Understandably, she was frustrated by my answer because she’s like everyone else - she’s used to trying to control everything. We all do it, and I still catch myself doing it too!

Just this morning I found myself trying to puzzle out a situation I’m working on right now. I was driving along in my car thinking, “Hmmm, I wonder if I did this . . . would that work? Or maybe I should do this instead . . .” Once I realized what I was doing I had to mentally slap my hands, like you would a child who keeps reaching for the hot stove burner!

I then had another one of “those talks” with the universe: “Just let me know if you want me to do something specific to make this happen. Otherwise, I know it will all work out for my highest good.” :-)

Taking action isn’t always a bad thing, of course. If you feel a nudge in a certain direction, go for it. But there’s a big difference between INSPIRED action and FORCED action. Forced action is when you’re trying to make things go faster, or make things happen in your own way rather than letting the universe orchestrate things for you.

Forced action isn’t always a bad thing either; it can even be helpful in a pinch, but rarely works for long-term situations.

Anyway, bottom line: focus on the end result and let the universe take care of the rest! Put a lot of positive emotion and belief into KNOWING that your desire will be realized - and wait to see what happens! Every time I do this successfully, I’m blown away by the miracles that come my way. Stuff I NEVER could have imagined, let alone orchestrated!

Don’t fear the loss of control - embrace the freedom and ease of not having to take on everything yourself. Your shoulders get awfully tired, carrying around such a heavy load! ;-)

It’s really about the journey . . .

Monday, January 28th, 2008

When most people first learn about the Law of Attraction, they focus on “fixing what’s wrong” in their lives. They try attracting more money to ease their financial strain, finding a soul mate to ease their loneliness, creating a more fulfilling career, better health - and overall more happiness and peace.

These initial steps are only natural because better life circumstances can definitely make us feel more secure and stable.

But if you work with the Law of Attraction long enough, you start to experience a deeper shift, something bigger happening within you. You develop a new awareness that it’s not about the “outer stuff” at all. It’s about who you are becoming through the mastery of your inner power. It’s about THE JOURNEY; the incredible journey to the center of yourself.

One of the most fascinating things about such a journey is the stunning realization that the outer stuff you were so intent on “fixing” doesn’t really matter. It has no power over you except the power you choose to give it. If you believe it matters, it matters. If you believe you can’t be happy unless all that outer stuff is “fixed”, you must find a way to fix it as quickly as possible - or else.

Ah, but when you surrender to THE JOURNEY, everything changes. You stop fixing and start allowing. You stop struggling and start enjoying. You stop fearing and start knowing. You stop surviving and start thriving. You stop basing your happiness on outer circumstances and events - and remember that it all comes from within you.

Rather than trying to make it through each day, you begin seeing your life as an amazing opportunity to make a bigger impact on the world around you. You start thinking about the lives you can touch and the joy you can bring to others. You start expanding your vision and giving birth to dreams that are grander than anything you dared imagine before. And rather than feeling fearful and intimidated by these bold dreams, you have a strong inner knowing that you’ll be given the tools and resources you need to make them happen.

Probably the most wonderful thing about this journey is that you stop taking the whole thing so seriously. You find yourself smiling a little wider, laughing a little louder and expanding with so much joy that you might burst with it! You suddenly find yourself weeping great tears of gratitude for even the smallest of blessings, gasping in awe at the beauty all around you and seeing everything in your life as a breathtaking miracle.

Even better, the more deeply you immerse yourself in this journey, all of that “outer stuff” that bothered you so much before starts transforming before your very eyes. As you heal your perspective, everything around you heals too - effortlessly and instantaneously. You realize that nothing is truly broken. Nothing needs fixing - just a tiny tweak in consciousness is enough to trigger a ripple of transformation that seeps into every corner of your life.

When you lift your perspective and stop trying to figure it out, when you truly start LIVING the Law of Attraction, you embark upon a journey that will change you forever - from the inside out.

Give to Receive!

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

One good way to use the Law of Attraction to bring more money into your life is by making a regular habit to give to others. You can certainly donate money to worthwhile charities, but also think about creative ways to contribute to society as a whole. Whether you’re helping an elderly neighbor with strenuous tasks or volunteering as a mentor for children, you are putting out positive vibrations that will be mirrored in your own life.

There are three important considerations to keep in mind if you want to create a natural flow of abundance through generosity:

- Give only what you can afford to give. Many people make the mistake of thinking that by giving more they’ll receive more back, but such a tactic rarely works. Going on a “giving binge” will deplete your own existing resources and set you up for feelings of anxiety and fear if you don’t see a return right away. You then reverse any positive trends you started by giving! Instead of giving more than you have try expanding your perception of how much is needed to make a positive contribution. If you can only afford to give one dollar, or 30 minutes of your time every week, then do that. Imagine the ways your contributions are helping others, and allow yourself to feel good about it. Affirm that when you have more you will definitely give more.

- Be discerning about when and what you give. As important as many causes are, there are far too many for you to be able to help all of them. Instead, make a list of a few that are very important to you. Or create a longer list and rotate them every so often. Even better, ask the universe to guide you to opportunities to help where it is most needed. When you feel a strong inner urge to help a particular person, family or organization – listen to that urge! Your intuition will not steer you wrong, and you may end up discovering a great opportunity to serve. Giving in this way can be immensely more powerful than taking a random approach.

- Let go of ALL thoughts about receiving compensation. Doing something with an expectation of what you’ll receive in return will not usually work the way you intend. Instead, make a strong intention to give to others simply because it feels wonderful to do so. Let each activity be its own reward by choosing to focus ONLY on what you can do for others. The more you can adopt a completely selfless mind-set when giving to others, the more surprising and unexpected – and powerful – your results will be when you do receive something back from the universe.

Whatever you do, don’t worry about how long it might take to start seeing a return, and release any expectations of how a return comes to you. Just because you give money doesn’t mean you will receive money back. Be open to all kinds of blessings, even those that might show up in disguises.

Ten Years of Gratitude

Friday, January 25th, 2008

Exactly 10 years ago today, I met and fell instantly in love with my soulmate, Patrick.

Sweetie, thank you. Thank you for the past 3,652 days of love, passion, laughter and joy.

Has it only been that long? It seems we’ve been together for a lifetime already.

You’ve changed my life in so many ways!

Thank you for reminding me to laugh, relax and enjoy life more often; for helping me to open my mind to new ideas; for showing me what a great adventure life can be if we let it.

Thank you for always believing in me, even when I couldn’t.

Thank you for seeing my beauty, when all I can see are my flaws.

Thank you for teaching me how to trust again - when I swore I never would.

Thank you for helping to build my patience by leaving your dirty socks on the floor - time and time again! :-)

Thank you for eating some of the horrible concoctions I’ve made for dinner without a peep of complaint - and even asking for seconds!

Thank you for reminding me that it’s okay to spend $112.00 on candy just because “the colors are cool.” It’s only money, right? ;-)

Thank you for forcing me to talk out our disagreements - when I’d rather run away and close my heart again.

Thank you for showing me that “bigger is always better” - whether it’s a television set, a car engine, or a cheeseburger deluxe. Living large is your specialty! ;-)

Thank you for your immense patience, constant acceptance, eternal support . . . and undying love. Yes, your love is what I’m most grateful for; it’s the greatest gift I’ve ever received.

Thank you.

Planting Seeds of Prosperity!

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

The more you study abundance and prosperity principles, the more you come to realize that your state of mind plays a very large role in your financial wellness. Even a tiny shift in perspective is often enough to change everything - from the inside out!

With this in mind, I’d like to share a little game that can help you feel more prosperous on a regular basis. It’s called the “Prosperity Seed Game.”

Before I go into the details, let me ask you a question: How do you feel when you accidentally find some money? Whether you stumble across a one-dollar bill lying on the ground or an extra $10 buried in the bottom of your purse, you likely feel excited and happy about your good fortune, right?

The Prosperity Seed Game can help you feel that way much more often!

Here’s how to do it:

- You’ll need some money to get started, at least a few dollars but more if you can afford it. If you can, try using larger denominations of cash, like $5, $10, $20 or even bigger. (If you can’t swing the bigger bills, it’s okay to start with $1 bills.)

- Now, take those bills (a.k.a. “prosperity seeds”) - and PLANT them! Hide one in the glovebox of your car, in your extra purses or wallets, in the pocket of a suit you don’t wear too frequently, or in the pockets of your off-season coats and jackets. You want to put them in places you don’t see every day so it will be a genuine surprise when you rediscover them!

- Once you’ve got your “prosperity seeds” planted, do your best to forget about them. Put the whole game out of your mind.

- As often as you can, recite an affirmation like this: “Money is flowing effortlessly into my life from all directions; thank you!” Really get into the state of FEELING very grateful, lucky, abundant and blessed as you say it!

- When you do find some money (whether a bill you planted or money from elsewhere), get excited! Allow yourself to feel like the luckiest person on the planet! Scream with joy, “Woo hoo, money really IS coming to me from all directions, thank you thank you thank you!” The more positive energy you can generate, the better.

- As time goes on and you rediscover more of your “prosperity seeds,” make it a point to plant more of them! You can even re-plant the same seeds if you like.

The whole point of this game is to make you FEEL prosperous and grateful about the good fortune flowing into your life. According to the Law of Attraction, the more you feel that way the more true it will be!

In fact, you may discover something interesting about this game. Not only will you find the money you’ve “planted” along the way, but if your experience is anything like mine (and other people I’ve shared this game with before), you’ll also start finding money everywhere else too! It may start small with a few coins here and there, but before long you’re finding bigger denominations and even attracting other forms of abundance into your life from all directions.

If you think you’re prosperous, allow yourself to feel prosperous and believe you ARE prosperous, guess what you’ll be? Prosperous!

Prosperity Attraction can be easy! Simply stop BLOCKING the natural flow of energy through your life. Discover simple prosperity strategies that really WORK - and heal your relationship with money forever! http://www.ProsperityVisualizations.com

Me, red

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

Excuse me, does this color make my hair look red? :-)

Yep, I had a moment of insanity and dyed my hair red. And I do mean RED!

This was my initial reaction:

But now it’s starting to grow on me. Something different anyway - I get bored with the same color hair all the time.

I used a non-permanent color, so if I grow to really hate it it will be gone in 30 days or so. ;-)

Law of Attraction: How Specific Should You Get?

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

You’ve probably heard it said that you should be very specific when it comes to asking the universe for what you want because the universe can’t deliver on vague intentions. This is true, but it is also possible to get TOO specific - and end up creating blockages for yourself.

Being too specific does not limit the universe; it limits YOU by creating a preconceived notion in your mind. If your desired object or experience doesn’t fit your preconceived notion, you’ll block it!

But what if the universe has something even BETTER to send your way? What if this better thing would make you even happier than what you originally intended to receive? You don’t want to limit yourself that way. Instead, it’s better to remain open to the infinite ways the universe can delight and surprise you!

Below you’ll find some handy guidelines to help you know for sure whether you’re being too specific, or not specific enough.

DEFINITELY BE SPECIFIC ABOUT:

  • The Object or Experience You Want to Attract

This is most often what people mean when they tell you to “be specific” with your intentions. You want to come up with as many details as you can about the things you want to attract. For example, if you want to meet your soul mate you could make a detailed list of qualities that you want him or her to have. “Great sense of humor; kind and compassionate; successful and motivated; respectful and considerate, attractive and fit;” etc.

  • The Essence or Quality You’re After

Once you’ve gotten clear on exactly what you want, consider WHY you want it. What essence or quality will this thing give you? Will you feel more loved, secure, happy, peaceful, connected, abundant, or . . .? Knowing WHY you want something can help you get even more specific about its features and benefits - which only ensures that you’re asking for something that will truly satisfy you! With every desire or intention, complete this statement:

“I want ______ because I believe it will make me feel ______.”

Take your time with this exercise and be sure you’re asking for something that will satisfy your true needs and wants.

  • The Ways it Will Change Your Life

Also be clear about the changes your intentions will create in your life and be sure you’re asking for something that will create the changes you want. For example, if you ask for a partner that is active and successful, consider whether such a partner would be a good match for you. Are you active and fit too? Are you successful and motivated too? Are you the type of person your soul mate would be attracted to? If your current life circumstances don’t correspond with what you’re asking for, the arrival of your desires are likely to create conflict instead of happiness.

AVOID BEING SPECIFIC ABOUT:

  • The Form Your Desire Takes

While it’s good to be specific about the qualities and characteristics your desire has, you want to avoid any specifics that would limit the results you can receive. For example, saying, “I want my soul mate to be 6′ 4″ tall, have medium-brown hair, light green eyes and a successful career as a motivational speaker” would be somewhat limiting. What if the universe knows a great guy that almost fits that description - except that his eyes are blue? Would you turn him away because he has blue eyes?

It’s not that you can’t give specifics about appearances and other qualities. You can. BUT - be sure you have a reason for wanting those specific things if you ask for them. If you have always been turned off by men with blue eyes, then okay, ask for a guy with green eyes or brown eyes. Just be willing to wait a bit longer for him if necessary. ;-)

Another area people tend to do this with is money. There’s nothing wrong with asking for a million dollars if you have a clear reason for wanting that exact sum. But if you’re asking for a million dollars because you want to “feel like you have plenty of money,” or so you’ll “never be broke again,” you could accomplish both of those objectives with other sums of money. What if the universe wants to send you smaller sums more often, like an extra $50,000 a year for the rest of your life? Would you refuse it because it’s not a million?

Your job is to get clear about the object or experience you want, the essence or quality it will provide for you - and then let the universe decide what form it will take! This requires releasing control, which isn’t always easy to do, but more often than not the universe will choose a form that absolutely thrills and delights you - FAR beyond anything you could have thought up yourself.

  • The Way it Comes into Your Life

This is another area where you want to avoid being too rigid. You may decide that meeting your soul mate is more likely to happen at a singles function, but what if the universe decides to arrange a chance meeting in the produce section of your local supermarket instead? Worse, what if you feel a nudge to visit the supermarket at that exact moment but decide not to because you’re hooked on the idea of falling in love on a dance floor?

Rather than trying to control “how” your desire enters your life, be willing to let the universe handle it for you.

Once again, this applies to money (and everything else) too! Saying, “I want to win ten million dollars in the lottery” is like telling the universe, “I just don’t believe that a large amount of money could come to me in any other way, so don’t send it unless it comes through a lottery win.” The universe will always honor your beliefs, so you’ll block the abundance that could be flowing madly into your life in thousands of other ways!

  • The Timing in Which it Arrives

Finally, as much as we’d like to be in control of WHEN something arrives in our lives, it can often be better to let the universe handle that too. If you have a specific reason for wanting something by a certain date then okay, ask for it. However, if your “specific reason” for wanting it by a certain date is that you simply won’t feel happy or content without it - you’ll be injecting an element of “need” into your intention, and you’ll delay its arrival.

Remember, one of the most powerful things you can do to attract your desires is get into the FEELING PLACE of already having them! Impatience always causes delays! Simply let go and let the universe work on your behalf, and you’ll almost always be pleasantly surprised by the result.

Still not sure how to get the Law of Attraction working for you? Break it down, step by step! Learn the real secrets of deliberate creation at http://www.LOA-Step-by-Step.com and create a life you’ll LOVE!

Attracting Money: How specific should you be?

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

When you’re trying to attract money with the Law of Attraction, you might wonder whether you should ask for a specific amount, or just focus generally on having plenty of money.

In my experience they can both work well.

HOWEVER - one thing you want to avoid at all costs is coming from a place of “NEED“.

For example, if you say to the universe, “I NEED $500 by Friday to pay my bills,” you are holding a frequency of NOT having the money you need to pay your bills - and that’s exactly what you’ll get! (or continue to get)

What you could do instead is visualize your bank account having the full amount of money necessary to pay your bills, and get into the feeling place of already having it. You could even pair that visualization with a little affirmation like, “My checking account has $750 in it right now and I’m able to pay my bills in full - I’m so happy about that!” (and of course, make sure you’re FEELING those happy feelings!) I’ve used this method with great results before.

But a less specific intention can work well too!

Instead of choosing a specific amount, simply focus as much as you can on feeling and believing that you have plenty of money to cover all of your needs. Your affirmation might go something like this, “I always have more than enough money for everything I need.” Or, “All of my bills are paid in full and I have plenty of money left over!” And once again, get into that state of FEELING like it’s true.

In some ways, the less specific intention can work better - only because you’re not limiting how much money you can receive. You may even end up with more than you originally wanted! :-)
