I happened to catch the last half of the Oprah show yesterday, which was about how to handle a financial windfall. (This was a rerun show from 2006.) They had a few experts sharing tips for handling money responsibly and so on – but they also had a few guests that shared horror stories about receiving large sums of money and then blowing it all.

Yesterday I went to visit my sister-in-law and niece (1 year) and nephew (3 years), like I do most Thursdays. My nephew came racing to the door when I arrived, and he was holding a cute, light blue stuffed elephant. He proudly declared that this was his “brand new, cuddly elephant”.
When my sister-in-law told me how this elephant came to be part of the family, I laughed uproariously and clapped my hands!
