I got an email from a woman who purchased my Law of Attraction: Step by Step ebook, and she wanted some advice on how to attract her dream. Her dream is to win the lottery so she can quit her job and focus on her family. She’s not alone! That is a VERY common intention for many people - especially when they first learn about the Law of Attraction.
Below was the answer I sent back to her:
I’m glad you asked me about this stuff because I cherish the opportunity to save you a lot of wasted time and heartache!! Don’t take that the wrong way, because so many people start off the same way. You hear that you can “create your reality” and it seems like winning the lottery could be part of that - but focusing only on the lottery just creates a logjam of energy!
Now, it’s definitely possible to win the lottery, many people have done it. However, I would recommend not focusing on that alone. If you want to do some visualizations of yourself winning, focusing on how great it will feel, and so on, go right ahead! You’re generating positive energy and that’s a good thing.
But, at the same time, don’t be hooked on the idea of winning - be open to smaller amounts coming in different ways too. Imagine if the universe has this awesome way of sending you thousands of dollars a year, and you turn it down because it isn’t millions? I know you wouldn’t do that purposely, but that’s the message you send when you focus only on one big amount coming in one specific way.
Here’s what I recommend:
1) First, definitely keep up the gratitude mind-set and feeling like you’ve got tons of money as often as you can. Generate the feeling of having millions, but not just millions - rather a constant stream of abundance flowing through your life. Feel like you would feel if you had exactly that already and money was no longer a concern: happy, excited, free, confident, peaceful, prosperous, grateful, etc.
2) Tell the universe what your true desire is (you’ve already told me it’s total financial freedom) - but let the universe decide how it will happen. Ask to be shown a way to create this financial independence if there’s something you can do, or otherwise, just know that it’s on the way!
3) When you do play the lottery, you MUST be completely detached from whether you win or not. The absolute worst thing you can do is get upset, frustrated or angry when you don’t win. If it helps, say something like this to the universe when you buy tickets: “It would be so wonderful to win this jackpot! But I am open to any and all abundance that you want to send my way, and I trust that you are working for my highest good, always.” That way you are affirming that your abundance is not dependent upon a winning lottery ticket. When you don’t win and you see that someone else did, bless them. Flow feelings of love and happiness toward them, and be truly grateful for their good fortune, just like you would want others to be for you.
4) You mentioned your second dream of writing for a living - but you also said it’s not what you really want. Is that because you don’t really like writing, or because you’d rather win the lottery?
In other words, if you didn’t need the money, would you still be writing for fun? If not, then writing is not the way to go.
5) Finally, be OPEN to inspiration! I can’t stress it enough, but your dream may not come the way you expect it to come. In fact, plenty of times the universe will blow your mind at the complex ways it can orchestrate things! In fact, I want you to be open to something else too. I know you said you want that big lump sum of money so you can quit your job and be a wife and mother — but what if the universe has something really important for you to do, something that would bring in tons of money to your household, something that you would LOVE doing and feel extremely passionate about, and something that was flexible enough to still allow you plenty of time with your family? Would you be adverse to that?
My point is, YOU believe that the best way to make your dream come true is by winning a large sum of money, but the universe has some amazing tricks up its sleeve and it might end up giving you something that fulfills you even more than your original dream. So, be willing to wait and see what happens - it might be something a thousand times better than what you planned!
Oh, one more point! If you feel a sudden urge to do something, pay attention to that. Inspired actions don’t always appear to be what you’ve been waiting for, sometimes it seems like it would be totally unrelated to what you want, but then it either leads the way to what you want or it ends up turning into something better shortly afterwards. So if you feel a nudge to do something specific and you get excited by the idea, go ahead and do it even if it seems like it wouldn’t help your dream along immediately. Hope that makes sense.
I’ve given you a lot to digest, but let me tell you a little secret. The number-one thing you can do to make the biggest difference in your life is to FEEL like you’ve already got what you want, as often as possible. Be happy, be grateful, and be at peace. If you can do that on a regular basis, everything else is going to flow so EASILY you’ll be amazed. Really. It’s what’s made the biggest difference in my life. The Law of Attraction is supposed to be easy to use - if you find yourself struggling, you’re working too hard at it! Just relax, have fun and let it all FLOW.
