Lately I’ve been feeling so blessed. Part of the reason for that is my new routine. I usually get up at 5:00am, but for the past few days I’ve set the alarm for 15 minutes earlier. Why? So I can spend more time focusing on GRATITUDE.
A few months ago I wrote an article about the awesome power of gratitude and since then I’ve made it a daily habit. But I still wanted to make it a more “formal” practice by setting aside time to focus on my blessings.
Also, I think it’s time to plump up the Gratitude category of this blog, so I’m going to start posting some of my daily gratitude thoughts. Might not be every day, but as often as I can anyway.
Want to come along with me? I’m dubbing this new routine “The Gratitude Chronicles”. All you have to do is set aside a few minutes each day to express thoughts and feelings of gratitude. You can write these thoughts down if you like, or even post them in the comments section on my own gratitude posts.
I like to do this first thing in the morning because it really boosts my frequency and gets me thinking and feeling in a positive way, which usually makes for a great day. But you can do it any time you like.
Here’s what I do:
When I first wake up, I stretch and become aware of how comfy and cozy my bed is. However, instead of wishing I could spend a few more hours in it, I just give thanks for having a warm, safe bed to sleep in. If one of my cats happens to be lying next to me I’ll pet her and give mental thanks for her love and companionship.
Then I begin to move my thoughts to other things I’m grateful for, like my husband, family, home, vehicles, jobs, etc. All the typical stuff most people are grateful for.
Then I start thinking about deeper things I’m grateful for. Like being given another day to make a positive difference in the world. And the life experiences that have brought me to this place and time. And the insights I’ve gained along my journey. And the way my life challenges have strengthened me. And so on. There are SO MANY things we can express gratitude for - it goes WAY PAST the typical stuff.
However, I don’t just “think about” this stuff. I actually move myself into a FEELING state of deep gratitude and appreciation for these things. By this point I’m starting to feel like I’m actually buzzing with joy because my frequency is zooming up through the roof!
So then I start giving thanks for all the blessings that haven’t yet arrived in my life but I know they will. I imagine myself and my loved ones living in a future reality that is overflowing with joy, wealth, good health, laughter and love. I give thanks for it as if we already had it right now. I also visualize anything specific I want and give thanks as if I already have it.
Finally, in the last two or three minutes of my gratitude session, I “create my day.” I see myself having a successful, productive, lucrative day. Lots of work getting done, lots of energy directed toward fun projects, lots of money flowing in, and so on.
Believe me, you can accomplish a LOT of visualizing in 15 minutes!
But more important is the good vibes you’re creating as you do this. You end up feeling very happy, optimistic and energized. Not a bad way to start the day, right?
What are you grateful for in your own life? Do you have a formal gratitude practice?
