Where would we be without the press? Would our lives be in any way diminished if they didn’t exist? Is being Pollyanna any kind of option for 21st century living? What is it that makes you feel bad when you read or hear about some terrible story in the press?
The majority understand human emotions to some extent. Visceral human emotions such as disgust and fear serve to protect us from things which would be harmful to us. But what about the other emotions? What purpose do bad feelings serve when applied to our perspective on life?
They are given labels, embarrassment, fear, anxiety, depression, sadness, loneliness. They all have little situations attached too. And the words conjure up memories of feelings within us which we usually usually take responsibility for. Whatever they are, they all feel bad.
Humans are exceptional beings on the face of the earth, in that they have the ability to think outside the box. They have the ability to direct their thoughts in a creative manner that other animals do not share. When you focus on a subject, you are literally attracting the necessary components to create your object of focus. This is easy to see in the creation of say a house when conceived in the mind of an architect, but it applies to everything physical that you see, even planet earth (though that was a thought that we humans didn’t come up with). Have you ever experienced thinking about a friend and then soon after serendipitously running into them? It seemed like a chance encounter, but was it really?
So what about emotions? Well, you can think of your emotions as a sort of sixth sense. Your subconscious is aware of all of your beliefs and your desires in life, and it uses this information as a benchmark against which your thoughts are measured. If they make the grade, you get good feelings as positive feedback, and if your thoughts don’t make the grade, you get negative feedback in the form of negative emotion.
If you are focussing on something that you don’t want to create, you are offered negative feeling to warn you to steer your thoughts in a better feeling direction. If you feel good, then you are using your free will to focus on things that you do want to attract into your life.
So the next time you pick up the paper and read about someone being stabbed, and start to feel vulnerable about the same happening to you, remember you are being offered that negative emotion because you do not want to attract such an event into your life. You can focus on better feeling things and attract those instead. Good feels good, bad feels bad.
If someone made a comment about you which was not loving, and this prompted you to think thoughts that put yourself down in some way, the negative feeling is offered from within because your subconscious knows that your greater belief is that your are appropriate and worthy and good, so your thoughts clash. In a similar vein, if someone does something which you find abhorrent, and you think unloving thoughts about them, it is not because they have done something wrong or bad, but because your subconscious know who they really are is good and loving, and your ill-thoughts of them are off track from what you really know.
Life is a perfectly balanced world of good and bad. Which aspects do you want to include in your life? If you can gravitate towards better and better feeling thoughts, then you have the knowledge that you are on track to what you want to achieve in life and what you believe will get you there. As you look for the good in the world, you will attract more and more of it to you. Characteristics of people, houses, jobs, situations, whatever you want. You will know as you use your emotions to guide you. Feel good.
