How to Manifest: Mental Clarity

Just as we create a fresh start in our homes with a good annual “Spring Cleaning,” it’s also a good idea to do some occasional mental Spring cleaning.

Like sweeping away dust, dirt, cobwebs and stains from our living spaces, we can also sweep away limiting thoughts, doubts, fears, bad habits and past traumas from our minds.

Try this simple meditation for a great pick-me-up:

Spend a few moments breathing slowly and deeply to release tension from your body. When you feel calm and relaxed, imagine that you can see your mind as a small room crammed with clutter, stagnant energy and layers of caked-on dust. Look around at all the memories stored there (both good and bad), see your old dreams poking out from amidst the debris, and notice how the cramped quarters of this room leave little space to add anything else.

Suddenly you notice an old broom leaning against the wall and you decide to do some housecleaning. First, march over to the windows and doors and throw them open wide (you can see the windows and doors as your eyes, ears and mouth, if you like :-) ). Imagine that you can feel a cool, fragrant breeze blowing through the corners of your mind, lightening your mood and restoring your energy.

Then take a few minutes to sort through all the cluttered thoughts that are piled around you. Revisit the memories from your childhood and young adult years, the sorrows and heartaches, the joys and victories.

Keep what you treasure, and resolutely set aside the things that no longer serve you. When you encounter something you’d like to release (like a painful memory, a fear, a regret), imagine yourself carrying it gently over to an open window, blessing this memory or experience for what it has contributed to your life – and then toss it gleefully out of your head for good.

As flies through the air, keep watching as it goes “poof!” and transforms into something beautiful and uplifting, such as a dove, a burst of colored light, a group of butterflies – whatever you feel led to envision.

When your room (mind) is clear of the things you no longer need, grab that old broom and start cleaning house! Mentally sweep away all the cobwebs, dust, grime, and stagnant energy that has been slowing you down.

Imagine a brisk wind blowing in through the open windows and doors, carrying with it a sense of joy and serenity that lifts your spirits and renews your passion for life. Then take a minute or so to neatly stack the items you are keeping back in their respective places, and close all the windows and doors except for one.

Affirm to the universe that you are leaving one window (or door) open to allow new ideas and inspiration to enter your mind, and to allow unproductive thoughts to slip easily out of your mind effortlessly.

Take a few slow, deep breaths and then return your awareness to the here and now, continuing with your normal routine when you feel ready. :-)

This whole meditation can be surprisingly short, but WOW what a way to invigorate yourself again! :-)
