Making Time for You – It’s Me O’Clock!

by Sheila Zayas

The angry wails of your alarm clock shock you into the day ahead. Almost immediately, the day’s agenda begins to fill space in your head. Drop off the kids; meet Mr. Smith; fundraising luncheon; turn in quarterly report.

Like a river after a storm, activity, people, and deadlines overflow our days. Evenings and weekends look exactly the same. Errands; house work; and is it just me, or does everybody else’s friends and family have birthdays every weekend too?

So much going on, life is a constant bustle of commotion. Even though we have bigger bank accounts, bigger homes, and bigger cars, stress is at an all-time high with four in 10 Americans suffering from stress-related issues.

But clearing at least ten minutes a day for me O’clock will beat stress like it stole your lunch and empower you with the creativity to solve issues.

Me O’clock is a time of personal insight when you can meditate, reflect, pray or just be. To be is to live in the moment and become aware of your existence. The whole point is to spend time with you.

Me time is not the occasion to saturate your mind with your issues or schedule. Rather, it is a time when you recharge your batteries and allow peace to flow in you.

Spending time with you can make you more intuitive, which helps in making decisions, understanding people, and evaluating situations.

My friend, Cheryl Crowley, has a gift for trusting her intuition about enlisting a particular client or making a certain business decision. As a result of her me time, her company – Immediacy Public Relations – is one of the fastest-growing PR firms in South Florida.

You can’t fully reflect on the direction of your life or business with so many things pulling on the strings of your attention. Alone time allows you to think about solutions to your life’s issues. This doesn’t mean for you to think about the actual issues. Instead, it means to think about ways to solve the issues.

Me time can release the mental pressure that the constant demands to be on-the-go bring. Rather than going about your day like a mad person, you’ll be in more control of your feelings and more balanced. If you are a person of faith, it can bring you closer to the Almighty.

Whatever hour of the day you choose to dedicate as me O’clock, be sure it is a time of the day when you can be absolutely alone without the distraction of TV, radio, or other people. If you have children, you can set your alarm clock 10 minutes before everyone else in the house has to get up.

Wouldn’t you rather spend your day recharged and in a peaceful state? Start your alone time today and the next time someone asks you for the time, say “It’s me O’clock!”
