I snapped this picture of my cat Onyx this morning as she peered out the living room window through the drapes. I had to laugh because it was a perfect demonstration of something that’s been on my mind a lot lately.
The more I work with the Law of Attraction, the more I see evidence that “reality” is not as fixed as we think it is. We’re used to thinking of reality as something that’s solid and unchangeable, except through physical action. But the Law of Attraction shows us that even a tiny shift in perception can change everything in a heartbeat!
A lot of people struggle with that. They know where they are and they know where they want to be, but they don’t know how to get from here to there. The new reality they crave seems so far away, so impossible, that they can’t see it as a possibility.
Between the two realities is a veil that blocks their view of what could be. But the veil is actually composed of something really EASY to change. Perception. PERCEPTION.
There really aren’t two separate worlds. We don’t have to transform one reality into another, or travel from one reality to another. All possibilities exist simultaneously, in the same place.
We just have to allow the one we want. “Allow” being the mind-set and emotional state that corresponds with what we want.
The next time you’re thinking about how to get something you want, realize that it’s already here. You’ve already got it. It’s sitting on the other side of a very thin veil that you can peek through (and STEP through) at any time. Just allow it!
There is nothing to get, nothing to change, nothing to do - just OPEN to it. It’s already here.

I stumbled across a little gem of a program the other day and decided to try it out. It’s called
Intention Generator and what it does is deliver a subliminal message to your subconscious related to a specific goal.
One reason why many of us have a hard time following through on our intentions is because we have limiting beliefs that keep telling us we can’t do it. For example, we want to earn a higher salary but our subconscious mind keeps saying that we’ve reached the ceiling of our capabilities - for money and everything else!
Of course, it’s possible to change such a limiting belief if:
1) You realize it’s there.
2) You employ a lot of repetition and effort to replace it with a more empowering message.
But that takes time, and many people avoid putting in that much effort.
WELL…in my travels around the web recently I stumbled across a new program that supposedly programs your mind to accept ANY goal as if it were ALREADY ACHIEVED - in less than 2 minutes!
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, “Yeah right!” We’ve all heard claims that sound too good to be true before.
However, I fancy myself to be a guinea pig of sorts when it comes to the power of thoughts, so I’ll try almost anything once!
I was really curious to see if it worked or not.
I have to tell you, I am pretty impressed!
First, let me explain that I know a lot about the way our subconscious mind works, and how our limiting beliefs prevent us from doing the things we want to do. Having worked through plenty of my own limiting beliefs in the past, I’m very familiar with the sensation of inner resistance - how it feels when you’re trying to shift your thoughts in a direction that conflicts
with your inner beliefs.
Likewise, I’m very familiar with the feeling you get when that resistance is dissolved.
This program, Intention Generator, dissolved some inner resistance I had on a couple of issues - immediately! I could actually feel a shift taking place after going through the program. And it took less than 2 minutes!
Since then I’ve been playing around with it on a few more issues, and I’m still very impressed with the way I feel afterwards; I know it’s having a positive effect on me.
If you’ve been feeling stuck or if you think your limiting beliefs might be holding back your progress, TRY THIS PROGRAM! It’s not free, but they do have a very affordable 3-day trial period you can take advantage of.
If you do try it, let me know how you like it! One thing I can suggest: use it more than once. You’ve got 3 days to see if you like it, try it on EVERYTHING! Set a few clear goals that you haven’t been able to achieve yet, and run them through the program. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the inner shift you experience.

Did you do the Gratitude Dance yesterday?
It’s a lot of fun! Today I figured we’d keep the good energy flowing with another fun activity:
How to Create an Intention Poster
An intention poster (also known as a “vision board”) is a great way to keep your intentions at the forefront of your mind - and thereby attract them!
Here’s how to make one:
Start with a large sheet of poster board (alternatively you could use a dry erase board or cork board).
Then gather some images that best represent your intentions. You can use magazines or newspapers clippings, or even a free stock image gallery (like http://www.sxc.hu/). Try to choose pictures that reflect not only the specifics of what you want, but also those that seem to have the “feel” of the essence you want. You can tell by how the picture makes you feel when you look at it.
Once you’ve got all your pictures together, stick them on the poster! You can arrange them anyway you like, and even cut out little signs or “thought bubbles” like you see in cartoons to add some powerful words, like “My fun new car!” or “Our dream home.” I also like to buy some cute stickers, ribbons, or other decorations that I can use to add color and interest, but that’s up to you.
When your poster is finished, it’s time to hang it up. Choose a spot that you’ll see often, like on your refrigerator, in a well-traveled hallway, or near your meditation area.
Then, be sure to spend time looking at your poster each day and generating lots of positive emotions as you do. Remember that the Law of Attraction is activated by your thoughts, emotions and beliefs. So as you look at the images on your poster:
1) Be sure to think positively about the things you want.
2) FEEL positive emotions about the things you want (not desperate or frustrated). Focus on feeling excited, joyful, grateful and peaceful - just like you would if you already had them.
3) Believe that they are making their way into your life right now.
That’s it! It’s a fun and easy project that helps you to keep a strong focus on your intentions. The more you do it, and the more positive energy you can direct toward what you want, the more easily you’ll attract it into your life.

You may have heard that you should always use present tense when you say affirmations or intentions. So instead of saying, “I will attract amazing opportunities today,” you should word it, “I am attracting amazing opportunities today,” or “I always attract amazing opportunities.”
Is this really important? Does tense matter?
Personally, I think it matters only if YOU think it matters. How’s that for a vague answer? LOL
Here’s why I think that:
When you recite an affirmation or state an intention, you are injecting your own unique beliefs and expectations into the mix. The words themselves don’t really matter - except that they put a specific picture in your mind and set you up for a specific expectation.
So the short answer would be, word them in a way that makes it easier for you to believe them.
Some people really do find it helpful to put them in present tense. Some people find it helpful to word them in a way that emphasizes a process instead of an end result. (Like, “I am becoming stronger and healthier every day.”)
If that works for you, go for it! If not, don’t feel that you have to do it that way.
Personally, I use future tense in my affirmations and intentions all the time and they still work fine. I’ll say things like, “Today I will remember to be alert to great opportunities that cross my path,” or “Today I will attract massive abundance in all forms,” and so on.
The bottom line is, whatever you believe and expect to see is what you’ll get - no matter how you word it.

Taking risks can be so unsettling, can’t it? Sometimes when we’re faced with the choice to take a leap of faith or play it safe, we hold back because of fear.
In some cases, fear can be healthy. Sometimes we’re really NOT ready to take that leap of faith.
But other times fear can keep us from following the dreams in our heart. It can keep us from moving forward. It can prevent us from achieving anything worthwhile. And it can turn our lives into a stagnant pool of negative expectations.
And you know what happens with negative expectations: the very energy and focus we devote to them encourages them to grow.
When you are faced with a choice between leaping forward and playing it safe, it can be helpful to consider two things:
1) What do you stand to gain by taking the leap?
2) What do you stand to lose if it doesn’t work out like you hope?
Are you willing to face the consequences either way? Think about the worst thing that could happen, and ask yourself if you could handle it.
If your answer is yes, then you’ve got nothing to lose.
Why not go out on a limb? That’s where the fruit is. - Mark Twain

“This will never work.”
Have you ever uttered a doom prediction like that? I know I have!
The more I study the Law of Attraction, the more I realize just how CRUCIAL our choices can be from day to day. FAITH is nothing more than a choice. You choose to believe. You’ve probably heard me say that before, but what does it really mean?
In every moment, we have a choice in what we believe. And what we believe sets us up to experience a corresponding reality.
Have you ever examined your beliefs? Have you ever explored why you believe what you do, and what it might mean for the rest of your life?
Knowing how powerful your thoughts, feelings, beliefs and expectations can be, are you choosing yours carefully enough? Or do you keep falling back into limited thinking?
In every moment:
You can choose to believe you’re successful - or pout because nothing ever works out for you.
You can choose to believe that good things are coming your way - or be convinced that you’re not one of the “lucky ones.”
You can choose to open to the massive abundance you crave - or shut it out because you don’t believe you deserve it.
I could go on and on, but you get the idea.
And by the way, no one is perfect at this stuff. We all slip sometimes. We all have days where things just seem to go wrong no matter how positive we try to be.
Those days don’t matter nearly as much as what you focus on the MAJORITY of the time.
Are you choosing to believe, or disbelieve?

What is abundance? Most people think of money when they hear the word “abundance,” but that’s not the only expression of abundance. The dictionary defines abundance as: more than enough; amply sufficient.
This can apply to money, no doubt about it. But it also applies to every other area of your life. In fact, some people would argue that having an abundance of money and lack everywhere else will make you miserable.
What does abundance mean to you? What would you consider to be “more than enough” or “amply sufficient”? How would you like your life to change from what it is now? What do you want your relationships to look like? Your health and well-being? Your career? Your financial situation?
Get a clear idea of ALL of these things before you start trying to attract more. Clarity is important because when you are very clear about what you want, you will find it much easier to attract!
Otherwise it’s like walking into a restaurant and saying, “I’m hungry. Feed me.” Your server needs to know WHAT you want to eat.
Once you’ve got a clear idea of what you want in all areas of your life, craft some simple affirmations that you can begin saying on a regular basis. Here are some good examples:
- I effortlessly attract plenty of customers for my business.
- My relationships are growing deeper and richer every day.
- I love my life, and live with passion and joy.
- My body is transforming into a picture of total health and wellness.
- I always have more than enough money for everything I need.
- The universe is always guiding me to my highest good.
Now, just saying the words is a good start, but it’s also very important that you begin to BELIEVE them. Affirmations can be very powerful but first you’ve got to get past your own limiting beliefs!
I’ve got a free e-book that goes into a lot more details about this, and I also highly recommend Why Most Affirmations Fail by Jennifer Shepherd.
Once you understand how affirmations really work on your mind, you can make huge progress on overcoming inner blockages to wealth – no matter in which form you want that “wealth” to arrive!

If you’ve spent a fair amount of time in a lack mind-set, you may have developed underlying beliefs that perpetuate the cycle – keeping you stuck!
How do you know if you have a belief system based on lack?
- You still struggle financially no matter how hard you work.
- There never seems to be “enough” money for the things you need and want.
- Even when more money comes into your life, your expenses seem to increase in proportion.
- You feel envious of people who seem to attract abundance easily.
- You feel trapped by your financial circumstances, with no way out.
There are several ways to change your beliefs, but one of the simplest is by repetition and reinforcement.
Remember, your lack beliefs are simply thoughts that have been processed through your mind so many times that they have become “fact.” The same intense repetition of an abundance belief will be needed to turn it around.
Here’s how:
Start believing in limitless possibilities. Affirm daily: “I am open to the endless opportunities for abundance available to me.”
Replace worry with faith. Affirm daily: “I am blessed with constant abundance and joy. I always have more than enough of anything I need or want.”
Be willing to receive. Affirm daily: “I am open to receiving the abundance that is rightfully mine. Thank you for the many expressions of abundance in my life.”
Most importantly, turn your attention AWAY from thoughts of lack.
- Don’t get anxious about money.
- Don’t obsess about what you don’t have.
- Don’t give your energy to frustration or impatience.
Detach and let it come naturally by shifting your thoughts and emotions away from lack and toward abundance – one thought at a time!

While I was out running errands yesterday, I passed a car with a distinctive vanity license plate. It read: “IM BROKE”.
I couldn’t help myself, I gasped in horror!
Why would a person label themselves with such a dire self-fulfilling prophecy?
If there is one thing I’ve learned in life, it’s that our beliefs are VERY powerful. If you keep affirming that you’re broke, guess what’s going to happen to your financial state?
Even when we’re not actively focused on a belief, it keeps playing over and over in our subconscious mind. I can imagine that the woman who was driving this car frequently finds herself in difficult financial straits. Maybe she’s not completely “broke” all the time - but repeatedly has unexpected expenses popping up all over the place, keeping her in financial limbo. She might get a little bit ahead, and then get pulled right back to her chosen status of “broke” when something goes wrong.
I say “chosen status” because we really do CHOOSE the circumstances of our lives. What we believe, and what we devote most of our focus to is what we will experience!
Why would a person do that to themselves?
Very often, it’s not that they WANT to choose this kind of self-fulfilling prophecy - it’s that they don’t realize they HAVE a choice. They think they have no control over their situation, so they accept it and never even try to turn it around.
Having said all that, it’s entirely possible that the driver of this car was just trying to be funny or flippant, and isn’t really “broke” at all. In fact, the car she was driving was nice enough. Definitely not a junker. I couldn’t help but wonder what the rest of her life looks like.
Still - even when we joke about something, there is usually a seed of truth lurking beneath the humor. Think about that for a moment. If you didn’t believe something was even a little bit true, you wouldn’t say it at all - not even in a joking manner.
We’ve got to be VERY CAREFUL about the things we say to (or about) ourselves, because it eventually becomes self-fulfilling prosperity . . . or lack.
If you want to joke about something, joke about how wonderful you are. Joke about your “adoring fans” or the wealth that’s on its way to you. Joke about how your life is blissful and easy and meaningful. Joke about how you are the luckiest person alive and you can’t get away from the goodness that constantly flows into your life. Even as you kid about this stuff, you are planting seeds for the reality to be born.
As for me, I think I’m going to get a new license plate for my car. I’m thinking along the lines of: “IM BLESSED” or “EVER JOYFUL” or “A POWERFUL AMAZING DYNAMIC CREATOR IN MY OWN RIGHT.” That last one might be too long, unless I buy a stretch Hummer. LOL
What about you? What would your self-fulfilling license plate say? Choose wisely, and then display it proudly.

I’ve never been good at caring for plants. Either I’d forget to water them, water them too much, or put them in a spot where they couldn’t get adequate sunlight and they’d die. I’d pretty much given up on trying to turn my thumb green.
Several months ago I was browsing through my local home improvement store when I was instantly attracted to a “Lucky Bamboo” plant. It had 26 stalks of bamboo all twisted, tied and formed into a gorgeous spiral design.
Something about it just called to me. It reminded me of gentle dancing, swaying easily to the rhythm of life. I had to buy it, I couldn’t help myself - even though I worried I was sentencing this beautiful creation to certain death!
When I got home, I read the care instructions carefully and made sure to give it what it needed. I placed it on a high shelf near my desk (far out of curious kitty reach), watered it daily and sent positive, loving thoughts to it constantly.
It has THRIVED! I’ve been so amazed at the way it’s grown, just exploding with health and vitality. (I’m still not sure if this reflects my own horticulturist abilities or the hardiness of this type of plant, LOL.)
Yesterday I noticed that the plant was getting too big for the pot it came in, so I decided to buy a bigger one. This type of plant doesn’t need soil, the roots just float in water along with some decorative rocks to keep it stable. So while I was out I also picked up some more rocks to fill the larger pot.
Once I started to transplant it to the larger pot, I was horrified to discover that the twisty-ties used to keep the stalks in a spiral pattern were cutting cruelly into the stalks! The plant had grown a lot more than I first realized, leaving deep cut marks where the ties were.
What GUILT flowed into me! Here I was being so attentive to this beautiful creature, speaking kindly, giving it plenty of water and indirect light - while the entire time it was being slowly strangled to death! Ugh.
I immediately began cutting away those restrictive ties and the stalks all fell outward, undoing the spiral design, but I didn’t care. I cut a length of soft cotton fabric to secure them upright, finished filling the new pot with pearl stones and water - and I swear I could hear the plant sighing with relief.
It reminded me of the days when I used to work in a business office and I’d come home immediately after work, desperate to shed the restrictive suits and body-squashing pantyhose. Nothing ever felt so good as slipping into a comfy pair of jeans and flip-flops!
That’s how I imagined this plant must feel, being freed from its bonds.
Here’s what it looks like now:

It may not be as “pretty” as it was in the spiral pattern, but at least it has room to grow now. I have no doubt it would have died if I’d left those ties on.
And you know me - I always see symbols in things like this! Symbols for the way we live our lives, the way we treat ourselves.
This post isn’t just about a plant. It’s about restriction, and constriction. It’s about giving yourself the room you need to grow into the person you were meant to be.
Too often we try to “mold” ourselves into something we think we should be (or what others think we should be) - but that is never as comfortable as just being genuinely ourselves.
Think about the areas of your life where you are being restricted or constricted in some way.
- Are you placing too many limitations on yourself?
- Are other people placing limitations on you?
- Are you trying to be something you are not?
- Are you avoiding being who you really WANT to be?
Think about it, and then grab your pruning shears and cut those freakin’ ties off!
Now, sigh deeply. Doesn’t that feel better?
Thrive baby, thrive!

Face what you think you believe and you will be surprised. - William Hale White
You may be familiar with the concept that your beliefs create your reality, but have you explored this idea further?
What does it really mean that your beliefs create your reality?
A “belief” is a thought that has been repeated in your mind so many times that you know it to be “true.” Sometimes the things we believe really are true, but other times we have tricked ourselves into believing something is true, even if it isn’t. These illusory “truths” are reinforced because our actions day to day actually create “proof” that reinforces the belief.
Take, for example, a belief that you are not strong enough or talented enough to achieve the success and abundance you crave. If you believe this about yourself, you will feel no incentive to try to be successful so you will avoid taking action on the things that could make you successful.
If you do somehow manage to ignore your self-doubt and start working toward a bigger goal, the slightest obstacle you encounter will convince you that your original belief was correct: you don’t have what it takes! Your every thought and action will be putting forth an energy into the universe that says, “I want to be successful and happy. Wait, never mind, I can’t be successful and happy. What was I thinking?”
The universe then starts pulling back the opportunities and abundance you asked for. You have now cemented the belief in your mind because you can’t seem to make any progress, so surely you must NOT be worthy of the things you desire.
In order to alter your limiting beliefs (whether about success, money or anything else) you need to be willing to question their validity.
You need to be willing to face the fears you have, the self-doubts, the beliefs that you are not worthy of whatever you desire, and find out WHY you believe those things.
Once you are fully aware of your limiting beliefs, it’s a simple matter to begin changing them and replacing them with more affirmative beliefs.
The good news is that once you start to question your beliefs and act differently, you eventually create “proof” that the new belief is true – which eradicates the old, limiting belief! Whoop!

Happy Monday!
I just had to restrain myself from quoting Clint Eastwood’s character Dirty Harry: “You’ve got to ask yourself one question: ‘Do I feel lucky?’ Well, do ya punk?”
It would have been funny, but I doubt you’d enjoy being called a “punk”!
Seriously though, today’s article is all about LUCK. What is luck? Why do some people seem to have it, and others don’t? Do you ever say things like, “If it wasn’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all”?
Well read on, because I’m going to tell you exactly how to become lucky. And it’s much easier than you think!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How to Become Lucky
You may be accustomed to thinking about luck as some mysterious, fleeting quality that you either have or don’t have – but the Law of Attraction teaches us that we can consciously choose to become lucky.
While the dictionary defines luck as “chance or good fortune” – studying the Law of Attraction awakens us to the understanding that chance has little to do with it. It is our thoughts, emotions, beliefs and actions that determine the outcome of any situation, not some random quirk of fate.
In other words, it is much more about the type of person you are and the things you consistently do that determine how lucky you are. Through the conscious use of the Law of Attraction, you can easily and quickly become the luckiest person on the planet! You just have to understand how to get some good energy flowing through your life by adopting the mind-set and demeanor of a lucky person. This involves learning how to alter your thoughts, emotions and actions in such a way that they attract opportunities, abundance and good fortune.
How do you do this? If you’ve ever observed the people that seem to be naturally lucky, you may have noticed a few interesting things about them.
- Lucky people are optimists. They always expect the best outcome with whatever they do, and they very often get it! They don’t spend time brooding over missed opportunities or a lack of options. Instead they focus on the positives and MAKE situations work for them. At the same time, they have learned the art of detachment. They let go of any “need” for a specific outcome and instead remain open to the many good things that life has to offer. This very mind-set is what attracts great opportunities into their lives, and also gives them the keen awareness to recognize such opportunities.
- Lucky people live in the moment. They don’t spend time obsessing over negative things that happened in the past, and they don’t harbor anxiety about the future. Instead, they simply grasp the joy and passion that life has to offer them right NOW, and let the future take care of itself. This also contributes to clearer thought processes, which enables them to be more aware of the potential that exists in each moment.
- Lucky people take action without hesitation. You will rarely see a lucky person hesitating, doubting, or holding back on something they really want to do. Instead, they leap ahead when they see something they want. They’re not afraid of hard work, but they also seem to have an innate ability to make any endeavor fun and exciting. They don’t groan about how hard life is; they take control of the wheel and steer their lives where they want to go!
If you consciously begin taking these actions yourself on a regular basis, you will notice a gradually increasing flow of good fortune. Not only will you attract better outcomes in every situation, you will call forth endless opportunities to keep improving all areas of your life.
I received a nice email from a man named Stephen Hopson the other day. He had stumbled upon my website while looking for Law of Attraction articles, and wrote with some very nice compliments about my LOA articles. He even did a nice mention of my website in his blog (thanks Stephen!).
When I hopped over to his website to learn more about him, I was impressed with what I found. Here is a man who left a successful career as a Wall Street stockbroker to become a motivational speaker, writer and pilot. That’s impressive enough - it takes a big leap of faith to do something like that.
But when you also consider that Stephen has been deaf since birth, his story becomes even more inspiring!
When I encounter people like Stephen I’m forced to take a deeper look at the challenges before me and ask myself if they’re really as daunting as they seem.
You see, I often take on the role of “Queen of Excuses”. Don’t get me wrong, I’m proud of the things I’ve accomplished in my life so far, but if I want to be truly honest with myself, I have to admit that I hold myself back far more often than I should. Any little bump in the road is a good excuse to sit down and stop trying. I know I’m not alone in that nasty little habit!
Reading Stephen’s story gave me a great moment of clarity, and I want to pass along the same to you today.
Whether you are working with a physical limitation, a fear, a phobia, or anything else that could possibly serve as an excuse - don’t let it! Adversity is only what you make of it. (In fact, that’s Stephen’s whole premise in his work - changing the way we look at adversity.)
Take a look at Stephen’s website, he’s got some great articles there, and also bookmark his blog: Adversity University (love that name)!
Most importantly, let Stephen’s courage and determination stand as a shining example of your own capabilities in life. I certainly am.
I recently participated in a Writers’ Meme in which we had to draw up a contract with ourselves. The point was to get clear about what we want to accomplish with our writing, and make an agreement with ourselves to stay with that vision, whatever it takes. (Thanks to Diane and Carson for this awesome exercise!)
A day or two before I was tagged to participate in the meme, my thoughts were already moving in that direction and I scribbled out a rudimentary contract in my personal journal. It was important for me to do that because I felt like I had veered far off the path I was meant to be walking.
I write a lot about the Law of Attraction in this blog and on my Wings for the Heart website because I really believe we have the power to make our lives into anything we want. At the same time, I also believe in a sort of pre-destined “purpose” that each of us has. I think we’re all born with very special talents and tendencies that we’re supposed to use on this earth. Why? To contribute something of value. To make our mark and leave the place better than when we found it.
That doesn’t mean we have to go on some grand mission to change the world ourselves. It means we simply focus on sharing what we have with the world. For me, that means writing from my heart, from the depths of my being, and sharing it with others. For you, it might mean uplifting others with your artwork, touching others with your singing, helping and healing with your medical skills, or nurturing with your cooking skills.
However, too many of us get caught up in doing what we *think* we should be doing - according to what society, our parents, teachers and friends tell us is best for us. Or worse - we choose our path according to how it affects our finances. We say, “Well, I’d love to be a portrait artist on the boardwalk in Atlantic City, but since I can’t earn enough money doing that, I’ll work at a bank.”
I’m not one to scold others for settling - I’ve done it myself for far too long! What amazes me is that we come to these conclusions WITHOUT EVEN TRYING to determine whether they’re really true or not. We just assume. And according to the Law of Attraction, when we believe something - we make it true.
Today I want to encourage you to take another look at your dreams, the ones you tucked away in a safe place and plan to pursue “someday”. Then I want you to question your beliefs about them. Is it really true that you can’t make them happen right now? Is it really true that you couldn’t earn enough money from them? Really?
I’m finally realizing something powerful about my own life, and I want to share this secret with you: there is no tomorrow. There is no “someday”. If you want to bring your dreams into reality, NOW is the time.
That’s one stumbling block we run into with traditional goal-setting, it focuses more on the future than right now. Rather than focusing on what we “will” do (eventually), we need to become what we want to be right now.
So, rather than setting goals that reside in some far-off future, I want you to make an agreement with yourself, beginning now. Draw up a contract with yourself. Get clear about what you REALLY want, and vow to bring it into being. You don’t have to figure out your whole plan today, just the first step. As you take that first step, doors will open, opportunities will appear, and your vision will get a bit clearer. And so it will continue with each step you take on your journey.
Just for today, allow yourself to believe in the impossible. Think about something you really, really, really want - and disregard those jeering inner voices that claim you can’t have it.
Don’t listen to the voice that says you’re not good enough, talented enough, or deserving enough. Don’t listen to the voice that says you’ll never get anywhere in life, that you just aren’t “lucky” like others are.
Embrace your biggest dream, hold it close to your heart and impress powerful emotions of joy and gratitude upon it. Then release your intention to the universe and know that your prayer has been heard - and answered.
Don’t try to force it to happen, but rather take a seat and relax. By doing so, you create a nice cushy lap for your dream to land on, fully formed and glorious in its brilliance.
This message made possible by your belief in the impossible. You may now return to your regularly scheduled manifestation program.
If you could change anything in your life right now, what would it be? And why haven’t you done it yet? If you’re like most of us, the answer lies in your existing beliefs.
We often forget the powerful role our beliefs play in creating what we want. We can visualize, affirm, set goals, and work hard till the cows come home — but if we don’t believe something is possible, we will resist the formation of it in our lives.
The good news is, once you understand how your beliefs are holding you back, you have full control over changing those limiting beliefs - and your life will change in awesome and spectacular ways!
Let’s take a look at what most of us do when we decide we want something. We first express a desire or set a goal: I want to lose weight. I want to make more money. I want to buy a new car. Then, we immediately start coming up with reasons why it’s not possible: I don’t have time to exercise. My company isn’t giving pay raises this year. I can’t afford a new car.
What if, by changing those limiting beliefs, we could make the impossible become possible?
It’s important to understand that to us, our beliefs are FACT. We have convinced ourselves that those facts are “truth.” However, think a moment about all the other “facts” that ended up not being true. We used to believe the earth was flat. We used to believe the sun revolved around the earth. We used to believe that space travel was impossible. We used to believe that a cancer diagnosis was an automatic death sentence. Ditto with AIDS. None of these things are “true” now, are they?
Think about some of the truths you have formed about your own life. Are they really true?
I’m not worthy of a loving relationship.
I’ll never have a lot of money.
Rich people are rude.
Money is evil.
I’m not talented, I don’t have any marketable skills.
Everything always goes wrong for me.
I have the worst luck of anyone I know.
I can’t do that.
I don’t have what it takes to be successful.
If you change these “facts” in your own mind, what might happen? You might attract a loving relationship. You might have a lot more money. You might recognize your own potential, start experiencing good fortune on a regular basis, and reach the level of success you dream about. Sounds good, doesn’t it?
But how? How do we change these truths in our own minds? This is the fun part. We have to convince ourselves that what we want is POSSIBLE.
Recently I’ve been playing a little game with myself called, “Why It’s Possible.” I invite you to play along in your own life, because it is incredibly empowering and it will blast away those limiting beliefs and begin attracting what you desire.
As I described above, most of us will state a desire and then immediately begin telling ourselves why it’s not possible. With my game, “Why It’s Possible,” we simply add on some new thoughts that help us see why our desire IS possible. Here’s how it works.
We state a desire: I want to lose weight. Limiting beliefs come up: Diets don’t work for me, I don’t have time to exercise.
We then deliberately begin formulating ideas about “Why It’s Possible”: I don’t have to diet to lose weight, I can just moderate how much I eat. I can fit more activity into my routine by parking my car farther away or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. There are plenty of slender, healthy people in this world who don’t diet or exercise much! If they can do it, I can do it too.
Let’s try it with another desire: I want more money. Limiting beliefs: My company isn’t giving pay raises this year. I don’t have the energy to get a second job. I’ve got too many bills. Why It’s Possible: Money can come to me in so many ways, it doesn’t have to be through my job. Money can come to me through lottery winnings, inheritance, unexpected bonuses, or I can even start a fun part-time business!
Here’s the key: YOUR “WHY IT’S POSSIBLE” IDEAS MUST BE BELIEVABLE. If you don’t believe in their validity, your limiting beliefs will NOT be transformed. That’s so important to understand! With some beliefs, it might take time to come up with true, legitimate possibilities that you can honestly believe in.
Here’s another important key: Reinforcement will be necessary. For smaller beliefs, you might be able to change them quickly and almost effortlessly. But for the big ones, you might need to keep playing the “Why It’s Possible” game over and over.
As you keep reinforcing your new beliefs and you begin to believe that they really are possible, more and more doors will begin opening for you. That’s what’s been happening in my own life since I began playing this little game. Not only am I getting more of what I ask for, I’m getting things I didn’t ask for. Everything is beginning to flow so much more smoothly and effortlessly. It will for you too, if you’re willing to believe.
As we learn more about using the Law of Attraction consciously in our lives, we become masters at visualizing, affirming, and attracting what we desire. We learn how to infuse our desires with emotion and power, we learn how to raise our vibrations through joyful thoughts and align ourselves more fully with the circumstances we want to bring about.
However, most of us forget one crucial step in the process: allowing. Allowing is a multi-faceted phase in the creation process, and it can be confusing for those of us who haven’t had much exposure to the concepts.
In generations past, hard work was a way of life. In some cases, it was the ONLY way of life. Like many of you, I come from a long line of hard workers: Maine lobstermen and fishermen, lighthouse keepers, factory workers, seamstresses, midwives, housekeepers, and public servants. My ancestors were proud of their ability to roll up their sleeves and put in a hard day’s work to keep food on the table and clothing on their children’s backs. Hard work was simply a fact of life, not something to be resented, just something that must be done, like breathing or sleeping when the sun went down.
Through the examples of my forebears, I was taught that nothing comes freely in life. If I want something, it’s up to me to put my nose to the grindstone and work for it. This isn’t a bad thing, and I don’t want to diminish the accomplishments of those who paved the way for us.
However, the more deeply we delve into Law of Attraction principles, the more we realize that there is another way. Some would call it a better way, but let us see it simply as an alternate path to a similar destination. What is this alternate path? ALLOWING.
As we just covered, action is needed at the beginning stages of conscious creation. We know we need to visualize our desires, affirm our belief in a new reality, raise our vibrations (thoughts) and come into alignment with the end result so it can manifest in our lives. What most of us do then is take further action to encourage our new circumstances to form physically. We might work harder to make more money, or we might join a dating service to meet the partner of our dreams. There is nothing wrong with these actions, except the belief that we need to “do” anything to make our desires manifest.
That’s where allowing comes in. What if, after we’ve visualized, affirmed, and expressed our desires to the universe, we simply let go? What happens then? Most of us are under the impression that nothing would happen. Ah, but we can ALLOW the universe to manifest exactly what we desire. That’s the beauty of the Law of Attraction. We don’t HAVE to make things happen, we can simply allow the universe to deliver our desires fully formed and neatly wrapped in a beautiful package with a bow on top.
So how do we allow? There are three key parts to allowing:
1) Let go of the “how.” This seems to contradict the creation process, because isn’t the whole point to control the outcome? It may seem so at the beginning, but as most of us go along, we eventually realize that the more we try to control the outcome, the less circumstances seem to work in our favor. By consciously letting go of HOW the universe will manifest our wishes, we affirm that our desired outcome is already a done deal. There’s no need to beg, manipulate, or control the situation because it already exists in perfect form. We simply need to let go and trust that the universe will deliver it to us in the most beautiful and beneficial way possible.
2) Let go of the “when.” This is one of the most difficult things to do because we want what we want right NOW. We don’t want to wait for divine timing or anything else. Unfortunately, our very impatience can delay the process. Why? Because by wanting it right now, we place emphasis on the “wanting.” Remember, we create what we focus on the most! If we focus on wanting, we create more want. By affirming that our desires will manifest at exactly the right time, we automatically focus more on trust and faith. We believe that our deepest heart’s desires are on their way to us, and guess what happens? They come more quickly.
3) Appreciate. It can be hard to appreciate what we have when we’re not happy with our lives, but once again, it’s all about what we focus on and what we attract. The more appreciative we can be about our existing circumstances, the more we will attract things to appreciate. If you have to, start with something small and obvious. Each morning when you awake, say something like, “I appreciate the opportunity to live another day. I appreciate the bed I slept in all night. I’m grateful that I can take a hot shower and put on clean clothes today.” As you go about your day, take a moment to appreciate everything you can, no matter how small and insignificant it may seem. Over time, this puts you in a gratitude mindset and will begin to attract more and more things to appreciate - and more often than not, those things continue to get bigger and bigger the more you keep up with this practice.
So, does this mean that we never have to work hard again? We can just sit back and “allow” the universe to give us everything we want? Yes, and no. There is one more important point that ties in to the concept of allowing, and that is taking inspired action. Occasionally, after we have expressed our desires to the universe and we’ve begun “allowing” them into our lives, the universe will provide a way for US to bring about what we want, rather than simply plopping it into our laps fully formed.
In this case, we will usually feel a nudge in a certain direction. We might be inspired to start a business, buy a lottery ticket, attend a lecture, read a particular book, or any number of other actions. If we act immediately on these nudges, circumstances usually shift and opportunities appear. These opportunities usually create an opening that can help us to manifest our desires simply and easily, and often quickly.
However, remember that inspired action shouldn’t be painful or difficult. It should feel wonderful and inspiring. You will feel excited about it, and eager to do it. That’s how you can tell whether you are being inspired to take a particular action, rather than feeling like you “have to” do it in order to get what you want.
Simply let go, relax, and allow the creation process to unfold exactly as it will. If you feel inspired to act, act. If not, just trust that the universe has your highest good in mind. Believe that, and let it guide your every step!
Lately I’ve been trying to explore the key factors of the Law of Attraction in more detail, and today I found myself thinking about expectations and how powerful they are.
Why are they powerful? Remember that our thoughts are simply a form of energy, and all energy gives off a certain vibration or frequency. It’s long been believed that positive thoughts have a higher vibrational frequency than negative thoughts. Try a little experiment to prove this to yourself by repeating different statements aloud. A positive statement like, “I feel so wonderful today!” makes you feel lighthearted and happy, even if you didn’t feel that way beforehand. A negative statement such as, “I’m really struggling today” makes you feel tired and weighed down.
Expectations are simply unspoken thoughts of a certain frequency. If we hold negative expectations, we give off a lower level of frequency than if we hold positive expectations. And as I’ve written about many times before, like attracts like! So, in a very real sense, our expectations are powerful enough to attract corresponding circumstances into our lives.
Hmmm, it really makes you think, doesn’t it? How many times have you set new goals or went after something you wanted, but deep in your heart you doubted you would be successful? How many times have you said, “With my luck, it will all fall apart” and it did?
This is one way we get ourselves stuck in a rut of negativity. We hold negative expectations, have negative experiences, which only seems to reinforce our expectation that things will go wrong, which makes more things go wrong, etc.
It takes a leap of faith at the beginning, but we can learn to hold positive expectations in any situation. We can choose to say, “I don’t know exactly how, but everything will work out wonderfully.” This will begin to attract better circumstances into our lives.
However, it’s NOT an instant thing. And here’s where the tricky part comes in. Because it takes time for our expectations to attract what we really want, we might be tempted to go back to our negative thought processes when it doesn’t work the first few times. It would be really easy to say, “See? I knew that positive thinking stuff was a crock.” And because we believe it’s a crock, it does become a crock. And that’s the most important point of this post: We create the reality that reinforces our beliefs.
Change your beliefs (expectations), and you change your reality. There’s your heavy thought for this nice Wednesday afternoon.
I’m reading through a new book I bought recently, Creating a Charmed Life by Victoria Moran. It features a collection of 75 short essays about how to bring more joy, meaning, and simplicity into your life.
One of my favorite essays from the book (so far) is called, “Give Up Your Mountain.” By “mountain” she means the foreboding issue that stands between you and the life you want to be living. Everyone’s mountains are different. For one person, it might be haunting memories of an abusive childhood, for another it could be an addiction, for someone else it could be financial struggle. She mentions the necessity of surrendering to situations you can’t change, and continuing on to create a meaningful life in spite of them. Wonderful advice, and this essay holds a lot of truth.
But something else occurred to me as I was reading, and that is, the mountain behind the mountain. Sometimes what we think is our biggest mountain is simply an anthill at the base of the true mountain lurking behind the clouds.
Some people think that financial lack is their mountain. Then, by some miracle, they win the lottery or inherit a large sum of money. But their problems don’t vanish, do they? If anything, they experience more stress, family problems intensify, and everything seems to get worse. If their mountain was caused by lack, the money should have dissolved it. Yet, a surprisingly large percentage of people who win the lottery are broke again with a few years.
Another good example is people who are overweight and believe that everything in their lives would be better if they could just lose the weight. Once they do lose it, what happens? They feel vulnerable and insecure, turn to food for comfort and regain the weight. In situations like these, we can see clearly that there was something else behind the immediate struggles, something that wasn’t addressed in order to resolve the issues completely.
There are exceptions to these examples, of course, but my point is that our mountains usually exist for a reason. Most often, they are based on a fear, thought, or belief about ourselves or our lives. Once we break down the initial mountain, we see the bigger mountain looming large in the background, and we realize that our work has just begun.
Or worse, we break down the initial mountain, and we DON’T see the bigger mountain, and we wonder why we’re still not happy.
So, how do we conquer the bigger mountain? How can we even tell why it’s there? In my own experience, it requires a lot of self-discovery. We must be willing to explore ourselves fully, question our beliefs, dig into our past, work through any unresolved issues, and make better choices.
Even more challenging, we must overcome the fear of facing the hidden parts of ourselves. Our fear could accurately be called the mountain behind the mountain behind the mountain!
But the beauty of this process is that once we face our fear, it doesn’t seem so big anymore. We can chip away at our mountains a piece at a time, keep the momentum going, and our lives will begin to transform.
It’s important to point out also that there’s no end to this process. We are never really done with learning and growing into ourselves more deeply. Our lives will always have room for improvement. We may also have periods of time where we feel uncomfortable with the work we’re doing, and start backsliding with our efforts. New mountains could spring up in our path, seemingly overnight.
But if we continue our efforts, day by day, week by week, and even year by year, we will make progress. We will learn how to love our mountains because of the way they strengthen us, and what they teach us. And we will realize that even though it wasn’t an easy journey, it was definitely worthwhile in the end.
It’s funny how we get so attached to the idea of something, isn’t it? We’ll hear or read about something great, and decide we need it right NOW. It becomes an obsession until we can attain it.
But here’s a little secret.
You don’t want what you think you want.
You want the FEELING the “thing” will provide for you. Let’s use an example. You see a commercial for a hot new car coming out. The commercial is thrilling, showing the car zooming through country roads, navigating hairpin turns, the driver with a big smile and the wind on his face. You want that. The car actually has nothing to do with it. You want the feeling the driver appears to have. Fun, freedom, excitement.
Do you need the car to provide that, or can you develop the same feelings in other ways? Ahh! Makes you think, doesn’t it?
Of course, I’m not saying you should never buy another car.
All I’m saying is, the next time you think you “need” something, pay attention to what you REALLY need, what you are really attracted to. And then explore the many options for bringing that same energy into your life. There is always more than one way to your goal.
