If you always do what you’ve always done …

Saturday, August 6th, 2005

You’ll always get what you’ve always gotten!

How many of us continue to repeat the same actions, over and over again, even though we’re not getting anywhere? We tend to stick to the known, rather than venture into the unknown, even if it’s not effective.

Be willing to try something new. Build up your courage and take a step onto a new path today. Don’t worry about the destination, just enjoy the journey! :-)

The state of chrysalis

Thursday, August 4th, 2005

Periodically in life, each of us will need to go through a chrysalis stage. This term is most often applied to butterflies in cocoons. Applied to our own lives, it represents a period of preparation, rest, and transformation.

We all love periods of progress, movement and success! But we can’t ALWAYS be in stages like that. We also need time to reflect, gather our energy and strength, and gradually transform into the next best version of ourselves.

When everything in your life suddenly comes to a standstill, and you can’t seem to make any progress on your goals, you might just be in a period of chrysalis. Don’t fight it! Embrace the stillness. Turn within and pay attention to the whispers of your soul.

You will know when the time is right to begin moving forward again. Until then, have patience. You are simply being prepared for the next exciting, wonderful phase of your life.

Speak softly

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2005

Whatever comes up today, react in a gentle manner.

When we ourselves have a lot of turmoil, pressure or dissatisfaction, we tend to let little things bother us more than we otherwise would. Someone cuts us off in traffic and we “flip out,” screaming and having a leap in blood pressure. Take a deep breath . . .

Cultivate peace and harmony within yourself today. Speak softly, act gently, be kind and patient. Not only will it benefit those around you, it will benefit YOU most of all!

Have patience

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2005

This is a tough one for me, always has been. I am not good at waiting for what I want to arrive. One of my favorite quotes is, “Lord, give me patience and give it to me NOW!” :-)

I’ve come to understand that my impatience stems from not being satisfied with my current circumstances, and my belief that the “new” circumstances will be so much better. Once I have “_________”, my life will be better, more enhanced, more peaceful, more successful, etc.

Once again I place my expectations on the outcome and won’t let myself be satisfied with anything less. Perhaps you do the same thing?

We only hurt ourselves when we do that. Anything new that comes into our lives must only add to our happiness now. We can’t throw happiness on top of misery and expect it to stick. Happiness must already exist, and become the magnet that attracts MORE happiness.

Courage!

Monday, August 1st, 2005

What are you afraid of? What holds you back in life? Are you afraid to step forward and move toward your goals because you might fail? Are you afraid to share yourself with the world? Afraid you will be ridiculed or rejected?

Whatever your fear, today I encourage you to step forward anyway. The fear will try to rise up and paralyze you, but don’t let it. Keep moving. Do the things that make your heart pound wildly and your palms clammy. Do it!

Then watch what happens. :-)

Embracing change

Sunday, July 31st, 2005

Change is scary sometimes, isn’t it? I’m a person that likes routine. I like being able to plan ahead and know where I’m going before I get there. Sometimes life won’t allow me to do that. ;-)

When something unexpected comes up, instead of fighting against it, try to see the potential and opportunity in the situation. Don’t fear change, embrace it! Look on the positive side and make a mental list of all the ways this new situation can be good for you. Then just keep on moving forward.

Releasing the Old, Making Way for the New

Friday, July 29th, 2005

Are you clinging to something that is holding you back? Perhaps a fear, belief, anger, pain from your past? Release it!

In order to make room in our lives for new, better circumstances, we need to let go of the old ones that no longer serve us. It can be scary, and sad. But once we do it, such a feeling of freedom and joy takes over us! We truly feel lighter and unencumbered.

Do it today. Let go of your fears, pain and sadness. Anything that is holding you back, drop it. Embrace your joy and courage. Go out and make today a day that you can look back and smile upon. :-)

Always moving forward

Thursday, July 28th, 2005

Do you ever wish you could go back to an easier time in your life? A time when you had no responsibilities (or less anyway), a happier time, a less stressful time, a simpler time?

We can’t go back. Even if we could, we are no longer the same people we were when we were “back there.” We wouldn’t fit in that situation anymore. Even if we could squeeze in, we wouldn’t be happy because we’ve now outgrown that situation.

It can be scary to keep moving forward, but it’s a blessing that we can! Fear of the unknown keeps many people stuck in life, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Whatever direction you long to move in, take a step toward it. Then another, and another. Don’t worry about whether you’ll like the place when you get there, because if you keep taking more steps, you will keep moving on.

The scenery is always changing and that’s a good thing! :-)

To act, or not to act?

Tuesday, July 26th, 2005

Today my intention is to look before I leap. Sometimes we get a great idea and immediately lunge forward to put it into action before fully thinking it through. On occasion that can pay off well, but other times we should really take a few minutes to breathe and contemplate before diving into action.

What is your long-term vision? And will this new concept fit well with it? Will it move you closer to your goal or distract you away from it?

Finishing

Tuesday, July 12th, 2005

Are you a starter or a finisher? For most of my life I’ve been a great starter, and not so much of a finisher! I love to start new projects. It’s so exhilarating to start something new, something exciting. But then it starts to become a chore, or I get stuck on one aspect, and little by little I lose interest. Or get frustrated and give up altogether. Then along comes another idea, and I’m off again! ;-)

Well, finally, I’m beginning to love the feeling of FINISHING. Seeing a project all the way through to completion. This is a new feeling for me, because I never used to allow myself to get there! There is such value in that feeling. Such a sense of satisfaction and pride. I can look at these accomplishments and say, “Wow, I did that.” Which then fuels me into finishing more and more projects.

Of course, with some projects, I’ll never really be “finished.” They are entities in and of themselves. They take on life from the energy and effort I breathe into them, and they keep growing and evolving. This is a good thing!

There is a difference between deeming something “finished enough” — or giving up because we get frustrated about slow progress.

If you struggle with the same issues, my advice would be this: Be tough with yourself, but also be gentle with yourself. Be tough about forcing yourself to do the work you know must be done, but at the same time, be realistic about what you’re expecting of yourself. Too often, we expect nothing less than perfection from ourselves, and it’s just not going to happen. Do what you can in every moment. If you start something, finish it! At least finish it as much as it CAN be finished at this present time. And then release the thought that you didn’t do “enough.”

Let your projects and goals take on a life of their own. Keep pouring love, attention and effort into them, and they WILL grow. And one day not too far into the future, they will stand up, smile and say, “I’m finished!” — and how wonderful you will feel! :-)

Renewal

Monday, July 11th, 2005

Today, I feel reborn. In the past few days I’ve had some pretty amazing insights about myself, mostly regarding fear and the ways I hold myself back. Fear is a sneaky thing! It makes you think you’re doing the right thing, when in fact you are harming yourself more than anything else.

The good news is that we can start again at any time. We can choose to walk right through the fear and continue on our way. Fear is simply an emotion. It cannot force us to do anything (or NOT do anything) — unless we let it. We have to remember who is in charge, and act accordingly.

What do you fear? How does it affect your actions day by day? Would you change that if you could?

Pssst…you can! ;-)

New ideas

Tuesday, June 28th, 2005

You know those days when you get a great idea, but you don’t have time to explore it? You promise yourself you’ll look into it later, and then what happens? Life gets in the way and you never do explore it further. Or worse, you completely forget what the idea was and can’t recall it for anything!

Well today, I’m making a committment to exploring a new idea. At least one. If I get more, I will explore those also, or at least write them down so I don’t forget them.

Believing in Magic

Monday, June 20th, 2005

I just sent out this week’s Newsletter to my subscribers, and the topic is Enchantment.

Remember when you were a kid and you believed in fairies, elves and leprochauns? It’s so sad that we are trained to forget all that stuff as we get older! Life was so much more fun and exciting when we believed a fairy might be just around the next bend in the road.

I don’t know if fairies exist or not. But I do want to capture their energy! I want that feeling of lighthearted fun, laughter, excitement, joy and play.

Today I WILL believe in fairies.

I will believe in magic and mystery.

I will recapture the joy and awe of my childhood, and let it color my entire day. :-)

Releasing Grudges

Wednesday, June 15th, 2005

One of my close friends has two family members who are dying. Because of some past arguments, several adult siblings in this family refuse to speak to each other. Still. Even though two of them will shortly be gone from this earth. They have shut each other out permanently, and neither side will release their anger and forgive.

I understand anger and hurt. Pretty much everyone has experienced hurt from a friend or family member. But is it worth hanging onto that anger, even when the one who hurt you is dying? And the ones who are dying won’t let go of the anger either. They will leave this earth still feeling angry at their siblings. What is the sense?

Life is too short. Don’t let grudges fester in your heart. Tell your loved ones how you feel. If you’re angry, tell them you’re angry. But talk to them. Keep them in your life if you can. It’s the love that counts, not the arguments.

Feel the Dream

Monday, June 13th, 2005

I’ve just finished reading a great book called The Attractor Factor by Joe Vitale. One of the greatest visualization techniques in that book has really been working for me and I want to share it with you. He says that the trick to manifesting what you want is to see it and feel it as if it were already reality. I’ve heard of that technique before but he adds a lot more to the process than any material I’ve seen yet.

I’ve been spending a little time each day immersing myself in my dream. And you know what? It works! Amazing things are beginning to happen. Little synchronicities are happening that are leading me right where I want to go. It’s awesome! :-)

If you have a dream in your heart, give this a try. Just visualize your life as you want it to be, and really FEEL the way you will feel when it actually does happen for you. Will you feel relieved, excited, happy, joyous? See the pictures in your mind and feel the emotions in your heart. This will actually ATTRACT what you want. You can make it happen. :-)

P.S. Don’t just do this for one day either, make it a part of your daily routine. You will be amazed.

Smile

Saturday, June 11th, 2005

Today I will smile. As often as I can, and as big as I can. It makes you feel good, try it! :-)

What gave me this idea was a couple of things that happened to me yesterday. During the afternoon I was walking through my living room, and noticed something bright on the ceiling. I looked up and saw a perfect smiley face, like this =) except it was upright. The sunlight was coming in the window and shining on something on my husband’s desk, and bouncing that reflection up onto the ceiling. It was so cute, and it did make me smile.

Later at the grocery store, I walked past a display of Persian violets, and something about them pulled me over to look. They just had such a perky, happy vibe to them that I had to smile again. A few aisles later, I passed some summer themed cakes, and they were all decorated with bright colored icing, and many of them had smiley faces on them! Think the universe is trying to tell me something?

I once read an article that just the act of purposely smiling can lift your spirits. I can’t remember the details, but there was an actual physiological connection between the muscles we use to smile and our mood.

So let’s smile today. As often as you can remember to, let your face break out in a huge smile. Don’t give a little fake grin, really let ‘er rip! :-D

Intuition

Friday, June 10th, 2005

It’s amazing how many nudges and signs come our way on a daily basis. Most of us are too busy rushing around to pay attention. But when we do, we can be led to miracles and most often, the very information we’ve been waiting for.

Today, pay attention to those little feelings that lead you to the next step of your journey. If you get an urge to pick up a certain book, or explore a certain webpage, or call a friend, do it. You just never know where it will lead!

Gratitude

Wednesday, June 8th, 2005

This world has so much beauty and joy to be thankful for. Think about it, we are participating in a grand experiment every single day! It is a test of strength, courage and perseverance for sure. But this is also wonderful because it builds us up, makes us more than we would otherwise be.

Today I will express deep gratitude at every opportunity. I love my life, my family and friends, my work, and the very fact that I’m here right now. I’m so deeply thankful for the many blessings in my life.

Join me if you will … what are you grateful for? :-)

Optimism

Tuesday, June 7th, 2005

Today I will look on the bright side of everything. I will avoid negativity in all forms and only focus on happiness, joy, love and peace. Is that too Pollyanna-ish? No, I don’t think so.

We are very often like mirrors. We perceive what we see, or should I say what we CHOOSE to see. The negativity is still there, but we don’t have to give it any of our energy or attention.

By focusing only on the positive, I encourage more positivity into my life. Sounds good to me! :-)
