Giving and Law of Attraction

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

I’ve written before about the power of giving and the universe returning much more back to you. It’s done amazing things in my own life, both financially and in terms of feeling great! ;-)

Giving works on a few levels:

1) You are affirming to the universe that you have more than enough, so the automatic response of the Law of Attraction is to shift your circumstances so that you DO have more than enough. Sometimes in very creative ways!

2) It helps build up your “faith muscles.” When you’re struggling with a strong lack mentality, it’s hard to give. You start feeling all these little nagging worries, like “what if I can’t pay the bills because I made this donation?” or “What if my bonus doesn’t come through - then I’m screwed!” But if you can purposely shift your focus away from these fears and keep affirming that the universe always provides, everything works out - simply because you did shift your focus.

3) Giving is really just an exchange of ENERGY. Money is energy. Love is energy. Happiness is energy. Joy is energy. And energy must FLOW. It can’t be bottled and kept on a shelf. It can’t be gripped fearfully. The more you let it flow out, the more you’re allowing it to flow back IN.

If you receive Notes from the Universe, you probably received a notice about this yourself, but if you didn’t, Mike Dooley has started a new monthly project, Gifts from the Universe. Each month a new cause or charity will be featured, and you can make a donation - as little as $1, or more.

This month’s project is Operation Smile, which treats children born with facial deformities like cleft palates and more. I can’t think of a more worthwhile place to send some of your abundant energy. Please consider sending as much as you can - maybe even a smidge MORE than you think you can. As you give, imagine the brand new radiant smiles of the children you have blessed. :-)

Then affirm with absolute faith that the universe will return your gift to you in a multitude of ways, multiplied ten times over. It must, because you want to be sure you can donate even more to next month’s project, right? :-)

Visit Gifts from the Universe now.

EDIT: LOL! Right after I posted this message, I continued reading my email and this happened to be today’s Insight of the Day: “The Universe wants to give to you. The moment you begin to change your vibration to one of abundance, it will start sending you people, situations, and opportunities that reflect your inner state.” - Peggy McColl, Author of ‘21 Distinctions of Wealth’

Lottery & Law of Attraction: It DOES Work!

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I just had to share this because it’s a perfect demonstration of the power of visualization!

I mentioned recently that I’m in the process of attracting some pretty big things into my life (bigger than I’ve attempted before, anyway), and one of those things is a large sum of money to be used for specific purposes.

One of the things I’ve been doing religiously for the past couple of weeks is visualizing money coming to me in fun, unexpected ways - like a lottery win, among other things.

There are a lot of opposing viewpoints on whether it’s possible to use the Law of Attraction to win the lottery. Some people say you can’t do it because that would be restricting the universe on “how” abundance will come into your life. Other people believe that you can manifest a lottery win as easily as anything else. My own viewpoint falls in between those two, but I’ll go into that in a moment.

First, back to my story. The most I’ve ever won in the lottery was $100, about 18 years ago. My grandmother bought me an instant scratch ticket for my birthday, and it was a $100 winner. Since that time, I’ve won only small amounts here and there, anywhere from $1.00 to $15.00 at a time. (In fact, I laugh about that because somewhere along the way I developed a belief that “I never win much on lottery tickets…” — it’s not too surprising that I rarely won more than a few bucks at a time then! :-) )

WELL, ever since I set this new intention to attract a larger sum into my life a couple weeks ago, I’ve been visualizing myself winning a large sum of money in the lottery. Sometimes I visualize winning a big jackpot in the twice weekly drawings, and sometimes I see myself winning on a scratch ticket. I don’t focus on the dollar amount specifically, I just see myself whooping and hollering with excitement as I win, and get myself into that feeling place of excitement and joy. (It’s a ton of fun, try it! :-) )

Yesterday when I stopped at the store, I felt drawn to a specific scratch ticket that was hanging on the rack behind the clerk. It cost $10, but I remembered that I had a $5.00 winner in my purse from the last time I bought tickets. So I decided “what the heck,” and I turned in my $5 ticket plus another $5 and bought the ticket that was calling my name. YES, it was a winner! I started scratching it when I got home, and was thrilled to see I had won $50.00!

But I wasn’t done scratching yet. I kept going and revealed another spot that was a $50.00 winner. Then another. Then ANOTHER!

Yes, this ticket was a $200.00 winner! That’s less than the full amount I’m in the process of attracting - but I was overjoyed because this ticket was confirmation that my visualizations are WORKING. I swear, it felt like the universe was sending me a Happy Gram to keep me focused until the full amount manifests - and I know it will!

So if you have ever doubted that it’s possible to attract a lottery win, take this as direct confirmation that it IS POSSIBLE.

However, I want to point out a couple of important things here:

1) First, I’m not ONLY visualizing money coming to me through the lottery. I’m not “stuck” on the lottery alone, and I think that’s very important.

Sometimes we get it into our heads that there is only one way to accomplish something, when the universe actually has limitless resources to draw on. So, even though I won this smaller amount, it doesn’t mean that the bigger sum will come through the lottery too. It could, but it might also come in other ways. In fact, it might come in smaller increments the whole way! ;-) Anything is possible.

So, if you want to visualize winning the lottery, it’s okay to do that - but also visualize other possibilities, and be OPEN to other possibilities, even if you can’t imagine what they might be. In addition to lottery wins, I’ve been visualizing my business income increasing, unexpected gifts and opportunities coming my way, and more. But I don’t get STUCK on any one way. Do the same thing and you’ll be open to many, many possibilities!

2) Also, I think it’s VERY IMPORTANT to enter into the visualizations with the right intent. In this recent post, I shared a little bit about what Abraham says about the power of pure thought vs. physical action.

If you watched the video, you may also remember them saying: “Sometimes our friends will say, ‘Well here I stand, while this is where I would rather stand . . . oh, and Abraham has given us a process so that we can get from here to over here. I’m going to offer this visualization to get from here to over here.’ And what happens is, as you are offering any process to get from here to here, what happens is, you’re vibrating in both places. So you can’t move from where you are; nothing changes for you. So you can make much faster progress if you say, ‘I’m offering this visualization not to get from here to over here, but I’m offering this visualization for the pleasure of the visualization…’”

If you missed that, go back and watch the video again - it’s a powerful insight! I know in the past I’ve caught myself trying to . . . how do I say it - PUSH things to happen by infusing my visualizations with a lot of energy and intention. But when you do that from a standpoint of trying to DRAW something to you, you’re also reaffirming that you don’t yet have it!

In fact, remember what Dr. Joe Vitale said in the Secret movie? When you do visualization right, it’s such a HOLOGRAPHIC experience that you feel like you don’t even need what you’re trying to attract, because you feel like you ALREADY HAVE IT.

That’s the type of focus your visualizations need to have if they don’t already! :-) That’s what I’ve been doing - just creating really fun, uplifting “mind movies” of myself winning money in the lottery, among other things. And it’s working. I’m seeing lots of evidence that I’m shifting into an ever-higher state of abundance and wealth attraction, and it’s totally effortless.

—> Shameless plug - this is exactly what my Visualize Prosperity Ebook teaches too - how to use FUN, LIGHTHEARTED visualizations to attract more prosperity into your life. It works!

So YES, let this experience stand as a testimony that it IS possible to win the lottery by using the Law of Attraction. Of course, that will depend on whether YOU think it’s possible for yourself too. :-)

P.S. I’ll let you know when I hit the big jackpot! :-)

Good luck!

Abraham: Pure Thought vs. Action Hours

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

I recently purchased an audio CD from Abraham-Hicks that is awesome! It’s on Money & Manifestation, and there was one part in particular that I found fascinating! And that is the concept of pure thought vs. action hours.

On the recording, a seminar participant asked Abraham about something she’s trying to create in her life, but she isn’t able to take much action on it because she’s got a lot of responsibilities (kids and whatnot). So she feels like she’s not getting where she wants to be fast enough.

In part of Abraham’s response, they said, “People will say to us, ‘I can’t just quit my job and go sit on the beach and meditate. Or I can’t stop what I’m doing and just imagine. I have children to feed or dishes to wash or things to do.’ And we say, we are not encouraging you to stop the action part of your life. We are encouraging that you act just a little bit less and that you envision just a little bit more.”

Then they went on to explain how much power there is in pure thought vs. the equivalent amount of action hours you would have to take to achieve the same burst of energy. It’s mind blowing!

Basically, 17 seconds of pure thought (meaning, no contradicting thoughts interrupting) is equivalent to 2000 action hours. So the results you could achieve by taking 2000 hours of focused action, you can also achieve with 17 seconds of pure thought.

But it gets better! Because energy attracts like energy, that first 17 seconds of pure thought will attract another thought of the same vibrational equivalent. And when those two thoughts come together, there is an explosion of energy that multiplies the effect times 10.

Equivalent = 20,000 action hours. The next 17 seconds, times 10 again = 200,000 action hours. On and on it goes!

Can you see why this is so powerful?

I’ve never heard this before. I don’t think it’s mentioned in the two Abraham books I have - or if it is, I completely missed it. ;-)

But it clears up something for me regarding physical action vs. visualization.

For most of my life I only knew how to create results through taking physical action. (Like most of us, I imagine!) I’d get an idea about something, work my butt off, and make it happen through sheer determination. And yes, I achieved some decent results doing that . . . sometimes.

Unfortunately, more often than not I would feel like I was on a treadmill. Taking action after action and not really getting where I wanted to be. And it’s so clear to me why! I was taking constant action, but at the same time I was emitting a contradictory vibration that prevented my desires from being manifested.

But THIS is why visualization is so powerful, because of the energy it generates. That doesn’t mean action is never necessary; of course sometimes it is. But the action is a complement to the energy you’ve already released through pure thought (visualization).

Anyway, I browsed around the Abraham-Hicks website this morning to try to find a written transcript of this audio, but I couldn’t find anything. But then I was led to one of their videos on YouTube, and that led me to another video and another - and suddenly I found a clip of that exact recording I just quoted above! :-) Ask and you shall receive.

So here you go. Watch, absorb, and then go visualize your heart out! :-)

Law of Attraction: Residual Negative Energy

Monday, April 21st, 2008

All right, finally I have a chance to continue on a topic I mentioned a few days ago: Weirdness and Law of Attraction.

As I’ve mentioned in my last several posts, I’ve been having some strange experiences lately. Black bears practically knocking on my back door, the brakes on my husband’s truck failing while I was driving it, and then a deer dashing in front of my car and narrowly missing leaving her butt-print on my windshield! ;-)

When things like this happen to Law of Attraction practitioners, their first response might be, “How am I attracting all of this? I’ve been keeping my thoughts and feelings in alignment with GOOD things, so what’s going on?”

In my experience, this is usually the result of residual negative energy.

Remember that we are always living the residual results of our PAST thoughts, feelings, beliefs and actions. So even if you’ve been “good” with your focus for weeks, it’s still possible to experience some negative things for awhile until that old negative energy plays through. I like to call it a “burning off” of the old to make way for the new! :-)

When I look back through my journals over the past few years, I can see very clear PATTERNS in my life’s manifestations! Here’s what it usually looks like:

1) I start with a negative situation.
2) I set an intention to attract something better.
3) I begin improving my thoughts, feelings and beliefs.
4) Things start to get better and I feel like I’m making progress.
5) Out of the blue, things start to go wrong again - sometimes in very bizarre ways!

Let’s stop here for a moment, because this is a pivotal stage. Depending on how I react to these “things going wrong,” different outcomes will ensue.

6a) If I slip back into my old, negative ways of thinking and feeling in reaction to these negative events, I will continue on a negative slide until I’m right back where I was in the original negative situation.

6b) BUT - if I refuse to invest energy and focus into the new, negative events and continue with positive thoughts, feelings and beliefs, the “bad stuff” eventually plays itself out and dissipates (usually within a few days, or sometimes weeks) - and I am suddenly thrust into MUCH better circumstances, usually through events that seem almost miraculous the way they come into my life.

Has this ever happened to you? I know it does happen to other people, but I don’t see it mentioned a lot. But it’s SO IMPORTANT to understand, especially if you’re new to working with the Law of Attraction.

When things start to go wrong again, it would be easy to think, “This stuff doesn’t work; I’m just wasting my time!” And if you do that, you’ll reverse all the positive energy you’ve sent out toward better circumstances. You need to keep pushing forward with your new, positive ways of thinking and being in order to fully burn off that old, negative residual energy.

How does this residual energy manifest? It can appear in any number of forms, but here are some of the forms I’ve experienced before:

- Illness
- Accidents
- Arguments
- Mechanical failure
- Electronic failure
- Financial upsets/emergencies
- Job loss
- Relationship meltdowns
- Depression
- Nightmares

And more - basically there are endless ways this negative energy can come through into your physical world, and sometimes it will happen in more than one way simultaneously! Like your car will break down AND you’ll lose your job around the same time. Or you’ll get sick AND your boss will demand that you put in a large amount of overtime - when you’d rather be home resting! Or your washing machine will break down, followed by your microwave, and your furnace! Yes, this negative residual energy can hit in more than one place at a time and pose a real threat to your new positive state of mind.

However, the important thing is how you REACT to these new, seemingly negative events. If you go back to thinking and feeling negatively, you’ll only exacerbate the problems. But if you can stay emotionally detached and just deal with them the best you can while still keeping your positive focus, the bad stuff will finish burning off and you’ll find yourself moving forward MUCH more quickly and easily! :-)

That’s where I am now. The weird experiences have stopped, my husband was able to fix the brakes on his truck at minimal cost (it was a brake line that cracked and broke open, spilling all the brake fluid out onto the road!), and some wonderful things have been happening that convince me I’m nearly ready to break through to the next level I’ve been focusing on. Soon I’ll be sharing those details with you, but not quite yet! ;-)

If you’ve been experiencing some residual negative effects, HOLD TO THE PATH! You’re almost there! As long as you don’t get all freaked out and “emotionally invested” in the negativity, it will pass sooner than you think. Stay positive, stay focused, visualize and believe you already have what you want - and it will come.

Let go, let go, let go!

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

I shared a little of my friend Diane’s current situation in my recent post, How to Get Your Mind Out of the Gutter, and I have an update!

In one of Diane’s private emails to me more than a week ago, she mentioned that her husband was due for a big promotion in the next 1-2 years, but “maybe it will come through early or something . . .” She mentioned this very casually, and then we moved on to talk about other possibilities.

WELL - she and her husband recently got the news that it is indeed very likely that his promotion will be happening early!!! Nothing is written in stone yet so they’re just taking it a day at a time, but I was hopping up and down in my chair when she told me that! :-)

Do you see the beauty of the Law of Attraction in this experience? She wasn’t hooked on the possibility as a solution. She didn’t start plotting ways she could make it happen. She just considered the possibility and then let it go and let the universe work out the details. I love that! :-)

One of the most difficult things I’ve had to learn as I’ve begun to master conscious use of the Law of Attraction is LETTING GO.

I admit it; I’ve always been a bit of a control freak. ;-) Not just a control freak though - more like a MARTYR! My thoughts always sounded something like this: “It’s all up to me; no one will help me out, I have to help myself. No one else will give this the same attention and focus that I will, so I guess I have to do it myself. Other people are lucky, but not me. I have to work hard to get anywhere in life; it’s a fact I’ve come to accept. Oh, woe is me, woe is me…” LOL I’m joking on some of that, but not really! Overall, those are exactly the type of thoughts I’ve had for a large portion of my life.

And of course, with that type of focus, what do you think I experienced more often than not? Little help from the universe (or anyone else), and the need for me to do everything myself!

Even when I would set intentions and try to attract certain experiences or qualities into my life, I’d try to FORCE them to happen on my own by coming up with an elaborate plan - which almost never worked out the way I hoped.

Ah, but when I started learning how to ALLOW, the universe began working on my behalf. That doesn’t mean I never take action; I definitely do. But I take action when and how I feel PROMPTED to do so. If I don’t feel that inner nudge to move in a certain direction, then I simply wait patiently and KNOW that my desire is being formed and delivered by the universe.

In fact, I’m working on something pretty exciting right now. I’m attracting something that’s bigger than I’ve ever attempted before. I’m not going to say what it is quite yet, but I’ll share the details when it arrives. ;-) But this time I’m purposely NOT taking action. I’m visualizing every day, feeling the feelings of having it now, and waiting excitedly to see what the universe will do for me. And over the past couple of days I’ve been getting some really neat synchronicities popping up in my face - almost like the universe is saying, “I got your request and I’m working on it; keep visualizing!” Okey dokey!!! :-)

Anyway, my point is - letting go and allowing should be a VERY big part of anything you try to manifest. You’re not supposed to conceive a desire and then plot and plan possible ways YOU can make it happen on your own. There’s nothing wrong with doing that, really - but then you’re not using the Law of Attraction; you’re using the law of ACTION. Big difference.

P.S. I almost forgot to mention that Diane has other good things happening too! She’s decided to definitely move back to her true love, writing - and she’s already getting offers of jobs and other opportunities. She and I are even going to collaborate on a project very soon. Needless to say, I think she’s moving in the right direction and taking ALL of the right steps to make her lost job seem like a teeny, inconsequential blip on the radar of her life! You go, Diane! :-)

How to get your mind out of the gutter

Monday, April 14th, 2008

“Hi Wendy,

I’ve been practicing Law of Attraction techniques for a couple years now, and I’ve always seen great results through the power of positive thinking. However, after building up to the life I wanted for my family, and receiving the things I’ve asked for and allowed, it was suddenly taken away a couple weeks ago.

I lost a good-paying job (the most I’ve ever made) because of government budget cuts, and our family is once again back to pinching pennies and living paycheck to paycheck. I’m terribly depressed to have lost this standard of living, and can’t help but have a very negative attitude about money right now.

How do I remain positive and turn my thoughts back around to “It will all work out,” when it was working out just fine one day, and not the next? I should mention our family life is not in the toilet, but I nonetheless cannot get the thought out of my head that we will forever be struggling financially (like before this job I lost).

Thanks, Wendy! I know you will know just the right words to say to get my mind “out of the gutter.” :)

– Diane

I am so GLAD Diane asked this question! And what a perfect way to put it - “get my mind out of the gutter.”

This post is going to be like a “Law of Attraction Emergency Finance Strategies 101″ primer! ;-)

First, let me set the scene. Imagine that you are standing at a crossroads right now. There are two paths leading off from where you are. One leads to abundance and joy, and the other leads to lack and fear. Which one will you choose? (Yeah, it’s easy for me to SAY that, right? :-) )

But seriously, it IS that simple. As simple as focusing on what you WANT, rather than what you DON’T WANT. Inside your mind right now, you’ve got two things happening: niggling fears about what the future will bring, and a glimmer of hope that it might be something good. Which of these two possibilities manifests depends on the direction your thoughts take from this moment on.

So, how do you choose? Here’s what I’ve done in my own life, and continue to do to this day:

1) First, decide what you really want.

Right now you’re feeling uncertain about the future, so you’ve got negative thoughts popping up in your mind, like “How will we cover the bills? What are we going to do? What if we fall behind?” Those types of thoughts can only lead to lack and struggle (what you DON’T want). Instead, come up with a vision of something you really DO WANT.

If you could choose anything you wanted right now, what would it be? How much money would you have in the bank? How much income would you have monthly? Don’t worry about “how” this will all come about; just decide what your final outcome will look like.

Print the Secret check and fill in the amount of money you’d like to have in the near future. You can use it for a one-time lump sum, or for ongoing monthly income. (I do both for myself! :-) )

2) Put your trust in the universe.

Once you have the check(s) filled in, hold it/them in your hands and say to the universe, “I don’t know how this might be possible, but I believe in my heart that you will guide me to creating a secure, abundant and happy lifestyle for me and my family. Thank you!”

Then take a few minutes to close your eyes and imagine what this lifestyle would look like. See yourself and your family being happy and abundant, being able to take vacations, cover the bills with ease, etc. Really get into this vision and FEEL the feelings of such a reality. Do this for as long as you like, but try to stay with it for at least 10-15 minutes.

Then set the check(s) aside and let go of the whole situation. Just trust that the universe is working on your behalf. Act as if you “KNOW” that it’s all going to work out perfectly. (For example, how would you feel if you found out that you had won the lottery or received an inheritance and you’d have the money within a month? You’d be confident that your financial situation was stable, right? Even before you have the money in your hands, you just KNOW that it’s okay. Adopt that SAME ATTITUDE NOW!)

Then, be sure to do this whole visualization exercise while holding the check(s) every day! Even 2 or 3 times a day if you can. The more you can place yourself into that state of inner abundance, the more quickly it will manifest as outer abundance.

3) Absolutely, definitely, and adamantly REFUSE to let negative fears take root!

When your mind is swirling with fear and doubt, it’s so easy to let them take over your focus but doing so only lends energy to the very thing you fear. You really have to develop a sense of mental discipline and firmly shift your focus AWAY from thoughts like these. This will be an ongoing process every day, and it will take a bit of inner awareness.

When you notice that you’re starting to think negatively or worry about money, IMMEDIATELY take action to turn those thoughts around! Say to yourself (mentally or out loud) “STOP!” And then consciously choose to move your thoughts in a better direction.

You can even make a fun game out of this. Here’s what I do: When I notice that I’m starting to think negatively about money or anything else, I say good naturedly, “Hey, wait a minute! No negative thoughts allowed! Nice try guys, better luck next time…” and then I imagine myself swatting them on the behind as I shoo them out of my mind. LOL :-) Then I turn around the thoughts I was just thinking to something more positive. Example: If I catch myself thinking, “We can’t afford to buy that right now . . .” I push those thoughts out and say, “We always have more than enough money for everything we need. The universe will provide, I know it! Thank you!”

It sounds really simple, but it works. It moves you into a more abundant state of mind, even though your outer circumstances aren’t quite showing it yet. But the more you do this, the more you’ll see amazing things happening on the outer level, which will only keep reinforcing your positive beliefs.

4) Use the power of gratitude.

One of the most powerful things I do is use the power of gratitude. To go back to the example I used earlier, how would you feel if you KNEW your financial situation was going to be okay very soon? If you knew a large sum of money was coming into your hands shortly, how would you feel on a daily basis? You’d feel happy, relieved, and GRATEFUL. You’d be saying to the universe over and over again, “Thank you, thank you, thank you so much!!!” Well, start saying that NOW.

Pretend that your prayers have already been answered. KNOW that money is on its way to you, and express your deep gratitude for it.

A few months ago I wrote an article about the awesome power of gratitude. Since then, it has become a daily practice for me and I continue to be amazed at how truly powerful it is to banish negativity and fear, as well as attract really GREAT things. Try it! Don’t do it sporadically or halfheartedly though - do it all day long and don’t just say the words, really FEEL the feelings of being appreciative and grateful for what you have now, and the miracles you KNOW are on the way.

5) Take inspired action.

Now that you know what you want, you may wonder “how” to make it all happen. But YOU don’t have to “make” anything happen. The universe is going to make it happen. Your job is to simply stay aware of nudges from the universe, and to take action on them if and when they arrive.

Sometimes, action isn’t even necessary. Other times, it may be. How will you know for sure? By the way you FEEL.

Here’s what you want to avoid. Taking action that doesn’t feel good because you can’t think of any other possible way to achieve your goal. That is NOT inspired action. In fact, that’s where I used to get myself stuck a lot! ;-) I used to think it was “all up to me” so I’d take massive action and try to force everything to come about on my own. There’s nothing really wrong with taking massive action, except that I wasn’t TRUSTING the universe to help me! I would burn myself out and be exhausted and frustrated because it was such a struggle to create better circumstances.

It doesn’t have to be hard! In fact, when it comes to the Law of Attraction, it shouldn’t be hard.

Instead, you want to be on the lookout for FUN, EASY, and INSPIRING ways of taking action. If a possibility feels exciting and interesting, it’s a good choice. If not, it’s not.

When you do receive an inspired action and you begin moving forward on it, just have FUN with it. Don’t worry about how it will all work out. Don’t focus on achieving a specific outcome - just let go, have fun and let the universe work with you. This may be easier said than done, but the more you do it, the more you’ll begin to see absolute miracles taking place.

***********************

Okay, so here’s a recap of the steps:

1) Decide what you really want. Be specific!

Don’t settle for what you think you can get - form a clear picture of exactly what you WANT.

2) Trust and KNOW that the universe is forming it.

Visualize this new situation and adopt the attitude that it’s already yours, right NOW.

3) Banish negative thoughts and choose positive thoughts.

Refuse to get sucked into fear-based thoughts. Shoo them right out of your mind, and consciously choose to think about ONLY things you WANT to happen.

4) Gratitude, gratitude, gratitude.

Be grateful for the things you have now, and the great things you know are on the way.

5) Take inspired action.

Only act on things that feel good and inspiring. Don’t use action as a way to “force” something to happen; let the universe do the bulk of the work, but take action on any little nudges you get.

That’s it! Easy, right? :-)

As a side note, let me say that I also happen to have some inside knowledge of Diane’s situation because we’ve been chatting privately by email - and she recently told me that she felt like her creative self was “dying” because of that job. Between work and family responsibilities, she didn’t have time for her true passion, which has always been writing. She’s a FANTASTIC WRITER! She’s got major talent. And if I can be blunt with my own opinion here, that talent was being “wasted” at her former job.

That leads me to believe strongly that a deeper part of Diane has actually created this new start for herself. Maybe not 100% intentionally - but that deeper part of her wanted something MORE, and knew that she was CAPABLE of having more. She knew she was up to the challenge of spinning this situation into a bonafide miracle for herself and her family. I do believe that! :-)

So, Diane (and anyone else who may find themselves at a similar crossroads), TRUST the forces that brought you to this place and time. BELIEVE that you can choose what happens next. Take a little while to figure out what you really want, and then INTEND it with all your might. EXPECT it to happen. LET GO of trying to make it happen on your own, and instead allow the universe to guide your every step. BELIEVE that it’s all going to work out exactly as you envision.

BE HAPPY, FEEL GOOD and ALLOW!

Weirdness and Law of Attraction

Saturday, April 12th, 2008

Bear bandits, then failing brakes - and today a DEER ran in front of my car! LOL :-)

Luckily she was a fast runner and I had time to stop the car and avoid hitting her. But I was tempted to get out of the car and inspect it and myself to be sure I don’t have a bullseye pinned somewhere! Okay universe, what’s going on? What’s the deal with all these strange occurrences?

I think I know.

I remember back several years ago when I first started making some serious progress using the Law of Attraction. First I went through a stage where it didn’t seem to be working. Then I started seeing some small progress. Then all of a sudden it would seem like everything in my world had just EXPLODED - very weird things happening, some good and some bad. Most just perplexing, and well, weird. There’s no other way to say it.

I’ve lived a pretty “weird” life anyway compared to most people I know - but I can recall some super-weird phases just like this one that always seem to precede something big happening.

The more I look at the events of the past few weeks (there have been a lot of other, smaller things that made me pause and say, “huh?” besides what I’ve related in this blog), the more I suspect that I’m on the verge of a breakthrough. Don’t quote me on that, but it sure seems like something is “brewing” beneath the surface.

I’d love to hear from some of you about your own experiences! Have you ever had what seemed like a very strange streak of events right before something wonderful happened? Or even if not wonderful - at least had a big impact on your life?

I can’t be the only one. Can I? *Glances nervously around…* :-)

Once upon a time . . .

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

Boy, do I have a story for you. It’s a story about the power of perception.

Today while I was driving my husband’s truck, the brakes failed. And I do mean failed - from one instant to the next I had brakes and then no brakes at all. I called my husband at work and told him about it, and after he made sure I was okay he immediately launched into a tirade about how his truck is a piece of junk (actually he used a more colorful word), and how we don’t need a big car repair bill right now, and how inconvenient this was because he had to leave work to come get me — on and on he went. I let him get it all off his chest, then we hung up so I could call a tow truck.

My husband arrived before the tow truck did and he was still ranting and raving about how aggravating this was, blah, blah, blah. I don’t blame him, I’ve done plenty of my own raving at times when something gets under my skin!

But today I was calm. Totally calm and detached about the whole thing. In fact, I felt blessed.

Finally in the midst of his rant he noticed my unusal calm and asked if I was really okay. I said I was, and then told him why I was so peaceful.

Every Thursday I do a ton of driving. It’s the day I do the majority of errand-running for the household, including trips to the grocery store, bank, post office, pharmacy and more - usually spending 3 to 5 hours driving through multiple cities. I also drive an extra 50 miles to visit my sister-in-law, nephew and niece for a couple of hours. All in all I probably travel close to 100 miles every Thursday.

Today was no different. I did all my errands and stopped to visit sis and the kids like usual. During the whole trip the brakes were fine. No weirdness, no hint of imminent failure. When I left their house is when the brakes failed.

I had just pulled away from the curb and coasted slowly toward a stop sign at the next cross street. Because the distance is so short I had been traveling maybe 10mph. So even when the brakes failed, there was still barely enough pressure for me to step hard on the pedal and force the truck to stop. Then I just put it in reverse and crept slowly backwards to the front of their house again and used the emergency brake to stop.

After I told all this to my husband, he still didn’t get why I thought this was a good thing. So I explained further - for the 75 or so miles I had been driving before that, I had gone up and down some very steep, winding roads. I had traveled through very busy city streets, and over crowded bridges. I had stopped for children in crosswalks. If the brakes had failed during any of those moments, this situation could have been thousands of times worse. I or someone else could have been seriously injured or killed.

You can bet that all of this crossed my mind in a flash when the brakes failed as I was coasting along at 10mph on a flat, deserted stretch of road. THEN he got what I was saying. Immediate shift in perception. “You’re right,” he said, “this could have been REALLY BAD if it happened anywhere else.” And he hugged me. Yep, that’s what I thought too! ;-)

Did I attract a brake failure today? Actually, I think I did. (whoopsie!) For the past few weeks I’ve been thinking about the brakes on my car and wondering if it’s time to have them replaced. It keeps popping into my mind but I haven’t gotten around to it yet. Since I had to drive such a long way today I asked my husband if we could swap cars. (There’s another blessing - if the brakes had failed while my husband was driving, you can bet he would have been driving a LOT faster than I was! :-))

So my point with this story is simple. By NOT overreacting or focusing on the negative aspects of the situation, I can virtually guarantee that something positive will come out of it. Actually, I already feel that the most positive outcome possible has been achieved. I’m still safe, and so is everyone I encountered while driving today. The truck can be repaired or replaced. So can my car. No big deal.

That’s the true power of perception! Like I say in my Law of Attraction ebook, the Law of Attraction is not meant to be a “magic cure” for everything that we think is wrong with our lives. We may still have moments when things go wrong. But if we make an effort to keep our thoughts and emotions in order, we can drastically minimize their impact and probably prevent even worse things from happening later on.

Either way, I just feel good. Great, actually. Like a loving hand is guiding me away from danger and toward all the good things I want. I may not get them all when I hope to, but I do believe they’re coming. And maybe they might not all be in the packaging I expect to see, but they’ll still be beautiful and inspiring. I couldn’t ask for anything more! :-)

A funny thing happened when I attracted . . .

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Oh, the irony of the Law of Attraction! LOL :-)

A couple of days ago I was thinking about my ebooks, and considering re-writing them, or maybe expanding them, or maybe even re-working them into full-blown step-by-step courses.

I get a fair number of emails from people telling me that the books helped them, that I explain everything very simply and they finally “get it.” That’s great to hear! But then I also get emails from people who still experience a disconnect. They’re not sure how to go about attracting something they want, or “fixing” the problems they’re currently dealing with.

So, of course, those kinds of emails always make me doubt my work. Is it good enough? Is it helpful enough? Maybe I need to do more for my customers? (Probably most writers know exactly what I’m talking about with this whole self-doubt thing! :-) )

WELL - isn’t it funny the way the universe sometimes manifests these types of thoughts?

Today I got an email that made my mouth drop open. I’ll paraphrase:

“Hi, love your articles, love your site but I ordered your book and it didn’t come thru. Are you for real, or just another rip-off artist?”

YIKES!

I looked into this person’s order and saw that he paid with an e-check through Paypal. My shopping cart system is set up so that the download details aren’t sent until an e-check clears, which takes 3-5 business days through Paypal.

This has happened before too! The first few times, I sent the book out anyway because some people were so offended by having to wait. Trying to appease them, I sent the orders anyway. Can you guess the outcome? Their checks never cleared and they immediately stopped responding to my emails requesting payment.

In the big picture, I don’t care really. I figure if they’re so desperate to get something for free, they probably need the money more than I do. But since that happened, I no longer send out orders until e-checks have cleared. What’s that old saying, “Burn me once, shame on you. Burn me twice, shame on me.”

But to be accused of being a rip-off artist by this latest person, geez!

My point is, did my own self-doubt bring this on? Sure it did! I don’t feel like I’m ripping people off; no, it’s not that. I know my work is quality, and I put my heart and soul into those books. But my own doubts about my work (and maybe myself?) sure did contribute to the manifestation of this situation.

I think today I’m going to put on my super-critical glasses and re-read my books and take notes about any new ideas I get. Maybe I can come up with ways to improve these products and appease my perfectionistic side - or maybe I’ll be led in a whole new direction, who knows? :-)

Lesson learned: Never entertain negative thoughts about yourself, your work, your life or anything else - because they WILL find a way to manifest in your life! :-)

Ho’oponopono Basics

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Stephen from Adversity University blog posted some questions on my last Ho’oponopono post and I realized that I never did fully explain what Ho’oponopono is, did I? I meant to, but forgot. :-) So let me start with a quick overview and then I’ll answer his questions.

Ho’oponopono is an ancient method of “clearing” negative energy by reciting four simple phrases.

I’m sorry,
forgive me,
thank you,
I love you.

These phrases activate a “process of repentance, forgiveness, and transmutation.”

The premise is that we are each responsible for the creation of everything that exists in our world - not just our immediate surroundings, but in our entire world (universe, really). If it resides in our consciousness, we created it.

That means you’ve created everything you see, hear and experience - yes, even if you see it on the evening news, and even if it’s something that doesn’t affect you personally, such as problems and wars in other parts of the world.

I know that’s probably a stretch for many people to believe, but if you’re familiar with subjective reality concepts at all it will make more sense to you. Quantum exploration is also moving quickly in this direction as we realize the “holographic” nature of reality.

But even as far as basic LOA principles this makes a certain kind of sense. Nothing exists separately outside of us; it’s all a projection from within us. According to our thoughts, feelings and beliefs we form our outer world. That doesn’t mean it isn’t “real,” it’s definitely real, but the only reality we know is our own PERCEPTION of the things we see and experience. That’s real, but it’s also extremely malleable! ;-)

Anyway, according to Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len (co-author with Joe Vitale on the book Zero Limits), our own “cancerous thoughts” are what create negative outer experiences, even if we’re not aware of doing so. And we can’t heal those outer problems except by healing the part of ourselves that created them. As we heal that, everything outside heals too.

Quote from the book: “Dr. Hew Len explained, ‘Simply put, ho’oponopono means “to make right” or “to rectify an error.” Ho’o means “cause” in Hawaiian and ponopono means “perfection.” According to the ancient Hawaiians, error arises from thoughts that are tainted by painful memories from the past. Ho’oponopono offers a way to release the energy of these painful thoughts, or errors, which cause imbalance and disease.”

Through the use of Ho’oponopono we claim full responsibility for the thoughts that created these situations and “clear” the energy so we can return to a “zero state” - which means we’ve cleaned the slate and everything is possible.

Here’s how the phrases work:

I’m sorry, forgive me

When you say these words, you are in effect saying to the universe, “I’m sorry for creating this situation or experience in my universe. I may not even understand how I created it, but I know I did and I take full responsibility for it. Forgive me.”

Thank you

When you say “thank you,” you are saying, “Thank you for clearing the error and making it right again.” It’s very much a mind-set of surrender, like acknowledging that you can’t fix it on your own so you ask the universe, the Divine, to work on your behalf.

I love you

With these words you simply express your love, gratitude and appreciation for the universe, for your life, and for everything.

You can read more about the process at the Ho’oponopono website: www.hooponopono.org/ and Joe Vitale has a video on it too: drjoevitale.blogspot.com/ (It’s the second video down on the page, “15 Minute Miracle”)

Okay, now for Stephen’s questions!

Is there another source of information other than the book you suggested? I seem to remember printing the words from somewhere but can’t figure out where.

When you decided to try it for money, how exactly did you do it? You recited “I’m sorry, forgive me, thank you, I love you.” Right?

What were you focused on when you were saying those words? Focused on money itself? Focused on the unexpected bill?

Did you consciously bring up emotions on purpose? If so, what did you bring up? Did you focus on your feelings of financial insecurity while chanting those words or did you focus on WHAT?

There is another source of information, which is the website listed above (www.hooponopono.org). The book Zero Limits explains it all much more completely, but there are some gems on the website too.

When I used this process for money, here’s exactly what I did. When I sat down to say the phrases, I had a mental image of my entire financial situation. I saw this unexpected bill as a blockage in the natural flow of abundance through my life. A blockage that I had created somehow. As I kept this image in mind, I started saying the words, “I’m sorry, forgive me, thank you, I love you” over and over again.

As I did so, I raised the corresponding emotions of regret, humility, surrender, gratitude, love and appreciation. If I had to pair words with those feelings, it was like I was communicating to the universe something like this: “I know I DID create this financial obstacle somehow. I know I’m fully responsible for its appearance in my life. I’m sorry for doing that even though I have no idea how I did it. I surrender this to you, Universe, and I thank you for setting it right again. I know you’ll set it right again, because abundance and peace is my natural state of being. Thank you so much for everything, for the love and support and guidance you constantly give me. Thank you for my life and all of the miracles in it.”

I didn’t so much think those words consciously, but that was the type of FEELING I brought up while I was saying the four phrases. A feeling of surrender and peace.

I didn’t focus on financial insecurity - just the opposite! I moved into a state of knowing that everything was being set right again, right NOW. Very peaceful, like knowing that all is well, even if I couldn’t yet see it.

Hope that makes sense! :-)

It’s difficult to put it into words. My suggestion would be to try it, even if you don’t understand how or why it works yet. Just go with it. When you see or experience something negative, say the phrases and bring up the emotions as best you can. You can do this with your own problems, but also when you see or hear about someone else’s problems. Take responsibility for them appearing in your life, and surrender them to the universe to be healed. Then watch what happens.

You might see only small changes at first, or you might see HUGE ones. Genuine miracles. :-)

I can tell you one thing. As far as my own experiences with this process, what seems to make the biggest difference in my results is how completely I can move myself into that state of surrender and peace. It’s one thing to say the phrases, but it’s a much more powerful experience to really FEEL them. See if that isn’t true for you too.

I’d be interested in hearing about your experiences if you try this, so feel free to share! :-)

Watch What You Say - The Universe is Listening!

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Jeannette Maw from the Good Vibe blog has a great post called, The Problem With Excuses that really got me thinking this morning.

She recounts the experience of turning down social invitations with the excuse that she has a big article deadline she has to meet, making it sound like it was a big struggle to finish it on time. And of course, the universe gave her exactly that experience - major problems in writing the article! :-) It’s a perfect example of being careful what you ask for, even if you’re not aware that you’re actually asking for it. The same thing has happened to me countless times and I’ve learned to watch my language carefully.

But Jeannette’s post also made me think of another kind of excuse that can be equally problematic. And those are the excuses we tell ourselves.

For years I used to tell myself (and anyone else who would listen) that I “can’t seem to get ahead” financially. Week after week I would pay my bills and have nothing left to put into savings. If I worked overtime and my paycheck was bigger than usual, an unexpected bill would show up so I broke even again. Rarely, if I did manage to set aside a few dollars here and there, it wouldn’t be long before some minor or major crisis required I use it.

While all this was going on, I would have mental conversations with myself and rail against the injustice of it all. Driving along in my car I’d be thinking, “I just don’t get it; it doesn’t matter how hard I work or how hard I try to set money aside, I just CAN’T GET AHEAD!” Of course, the universe was saying, “I know, I know . . . it’s terrible, isn’t it?” HA! :-)

I did the same thing with my career: “I wish I could do what I love and write for a living, but it’s so HARD to get started . . .” (Universe: “Yes indeed, it’s very hard.”)

I did the same thing with my weight: “No matter how little I eat and how much I exercise, I just can’t seem to lose weight.” (Universe: “Yup.”)

:-)

You see where I’m going, don’t you?

What kind of excuses do you constantly tell yourself?

That you can’t be successful “because” . . .

That you can’t make more money “because” . . .

That you can’t meet the love of your life “because” . . .

As Jeannette said in her insightful blog post, the universe hears excuses as INSTRUCTIONS. Man, truer words were never spoken! (or written)

Once you start exploring this, I think you’ll be shocked when you realize how many wonderful things you’re blocking with excuses. And once you’ve identified your excuses, it’s a simple matter to turn them around. Instead of having mental conversations about how hard things are or how impossible something is, you can say things like:

“I just couldn’t believe how easy it was to get what I wanted! Once I stopped with the excuses, the floodgates opened and great things happened!”

“It feels so good to put money in my savings account and I’m amazed at the way my finances seem to adjust themselves so I can do it week after week.”

“Losing weight became really easy and natural once I started loving myself completely.”

Excuses don’t always have to be BAD - they can be GOOD too! Have you ever heard someone say, “I must have a great metabolism; I can eat all I want and I don’t gain weight”? Likewise, you may have heard others say (or said it yourself), “My metabolism must be really slow; I hardly eat and I still gain weight.” Those are both excuses that are constantly being reinforced in the mind of the believer.

When it comes right down to it, an excuse is nothing more than a storyline. It’s something you tell yourself (and others) over and over again, and eventually it becomes true.

That’s really good news! :-) Change your storyline and you change your reality.

Go ahead, take a few minutes to think about your own excuses and then replace them with a more empowering or positive excuse. “I don’t know how I won ten million dollars in the lottery, the numbers just came to me. I’m just very lucky, I guess!” LOL :-D

Ho’oponopono - Clearing the Negativity

Monday, March 17th, 2008

Back in February I wrote a short post on Ho’oponopono and promised to write more about it later. Since then I’ve had some interesting experiences with this process!

The first few times I used it I didn’t spend a lot of time on it. I recited the words and definitely felt some shifting taking place, but didn’t really immerse myself in the process fully. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to go all the way and see what it could really do.

For years now I’ve had a recurring health issue that I can’t seem to get rid of. I’ve tried everything from conventional treatments to alternative treatments to visualization to EFT and beyond. Nothing has worked for this condition, not even the many LOA techniques I know. It’s a minor condition, but very annoying because it just keeps coming back and coming back.

So I thought, “Hmm, let’s try Ho’oponopono and see if it will work.” Can’t hurt, right?

I finished my work for the day and settled in to watch TV with Pat (hubby) for a few hours. He was watching some boring show on cars, so I was easily able to tune out the TV and focus on Ho’oponopono. I sat in the glider rocking chair and put my feet up, started rocking and saying the words to myself: I’m sorry, forgive me, thank you, I love you . . .

Within a few minutes I had entered an almost trance-like state, rocking steadily and saying the words mentally over and over again. As I said each statement I made a point of bringing up the corresponding emotions (actually feeling regretful for creating this situation in my life, surrendering to the universe, feeling grateful, flowing feelings of deep love and appreciation, etc.).

Before I knew it, more than an hour had passed - and something VERY interesting was happening. Outside, the wind had picked up and was practically howling around the house. Pat looked at me and said, “Wow, you hear that wind?” I got up and looked outside and saw the trees swaying back and forth in strong gusts. Call me superstitious but it didn’t seem like a random event. ;-) It seemed like this wind was “blowing” the negative energy from my life.

I sat back down in my chair, and that’s when I noticed that the whole living room appeared to be glowing . . . like a thousand candles were casting a soft golden glow on everything. It seemed like that glow was within me too - like *I* had been cleansed. I felt so light and peaceful. And that condition that I hadn’t been able to get rid of before? GONE. And it hasn’t come back since.

That would be amazing enough, but I’m not done yet.

A few days later I received an unexpected bill in the mail that was pretty big and I didn’t have the money on hand to pay it. I could have taken it from savings but I didn’t want to do that. As I considered ways to raise the money quickly, a little light bulb went off in my head, “Would Ho’oponopono work on money too?” Why not?

That night I did the same thing, rocked in the glider for more than an hour saying the words and bringing up the corresponding feelings. And YES, the same thing happened - the wind kicked up and started blowing hard outside! And the next few days it was like a hurricane came blowing into my financial sector. Orders came FLOODING in for my business like they never have before. Not only orders either, but all kinds of good things like referrals and new opportunities for the future and more. In the space of a few days, I had more than enough money to pay that bill - and it came in a way that was completely effortless.

It’s no mystery to me why this process works so well in the context of Law of Attraction. Saying these words and bringing up the feelings associated with them automatically moves you into a state of surrender. You’re not RESISTING or throwing anxiety and fear into the mix. Your vibrational state becomes one of peace, harmony and receptivity. You’re LETTING GO - which is one of THE most important things you can do when you’re trying to create better circumstances. You’re giving the universe room to work on your behalf - and WOW does it.

So, if you’ve got a situation that nothing else seems to work on, you might want to try Ho’oponopono and see if it might be just the thing you need. I do recommend reading the book, Zero Limits because you’ll learn a lot more about the process and how it works. Besides, it’s a fascinating read. There are a lot of amazing stories in there - far more impressive than mine. Definitely check it out if you get a chance.

As for me, I’ve got a few other situations I’ll be using this process on! ;-)

How soon does Law of Attraction work?

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

I was just browsing through a discussion forum and saw a question that gets asked a lot by people new to the Law of Attraction: “How soon is it supposed to work?”

Perhaps a better question would be: “How soon CAN it work?”

And the short answer would be: IMMEDIATELY

The person who asked that question is doing something that we’ve all probably done: looking at her outer circumstances and trying to create (or attract) the thing(s) she’s lacking.

But approaching from that mind-set NEVER works. You can’t create from a state of lack. In her message, she said she’s usually a positive person, she’s been trying to attract certain things into her life, but it’s not working. How long before it does?

I responded to her personally, but I’m also going to repeat what I said here in this blog.

1) Using the Law of Attraction is not about “getting” something.

Being a positive person is not enough! It is very possible to be a positive person that is locked into a lack mind-set. You can’t look at your outer surroundings and say, “I don’t have this thing I want, so I need to get it.” That immediately places you into a state of “not having.” Even worse, the longer you stay in the focus of not having, the more “not having” you’re going to attract!

In order to transcend that mind-set, you’ve got to put yourself into the state of already having what you want - even if your outer circumstances don’t show it yet. The more effectively you can alter your mental and emotional perceptions to include things like gratitude, joy, happiness, passion and peace (exactly the way you would feel if you already had everything you wanted), the more quickly your outer circumstances will change.

2) Focus more of your attention on helping other people get what they want.

We so often hold ourselves back from giving to others because we don’t think we have “enough” for ourselves. Inner lack begins to show up as outer lack, both in our own lives and in the lives of those around us. Changing this is as easy as giving more! You don’t have to have a lot to give.

You can give money, but other things are even more important sometimes. Give of your time. Give love. Give a helping hand. Give encouragement. Reach out and do what you can to make a difference in other people’s lives. When you do that, you’re automatically giving to yourself too - and you trigger MORE to come into your life.

3) Finally, start expressing self-love as often as you can.

Outer lack is often created by inner emptiness, disconnection from your center and the unwillingness to believe you deserve abundance and happiness. Low self-esteem and self-worth can create the appearance of lack in ALL areas of your life, from health to money to relationships and more.

On the other hand, when you start REALLY loving yourself, not in a vain way, but in a healthy, compassionate way, everything around you begins to transform to reflect your state of mind and emotion. Every day, say to yourself over and over again, “I completely love and accept myself exactly as I am, and I am open to receiving the abundance and joy that is rightfully mine.” The more you begin to believe this, the more miracles you’re going to see taking place around you - and within you!

—> Bottom line, get rid of your habit of looking outside yourself for the things that will make you happy. Generate that happiness and peace from within, and you’ll see it shifting your outer circumstances in no time - maybe even INSTANTLY. :-)

Allowing Wellness . . . or Not

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Today’s Daily Quote by Abraham-Hicks is so revealing, and so simple:

Wellness that is being allowed, or the wellness that is being denied, is all about the mindset, the mood, the attitude, the practiced thoughts. There is not one exception, in any human or beast; because, you can patch them up again and again, and they will just find another way of reverting back to the natural rhythm of their mind. Treating the body really is about treating the mind. It is all psychosomatic. Every bit of it, no exceptions. Excerpted from a workshop in Philadelphia, PA on Monday, May 13th, 2002We’re either allowing the natural flow of wellness through our lives, or we’re not.

That’s a good reminder for those of us who keep feeling like we have to “do” or “get” something through our manifestation attempts.

It’s not about getting or doing, it’s about BEING and ALLOWING.

Can’t get much easier than that! :-)

Go BIGGER With Your Manifestations

Monday, February 25th, 2008

You hear it all the time, “start small, attract a cup of coffee.” I’ve even said it myself, and it can work if you’re feeling overwhelmed about using the Law of Attraction. We’re used to thinking of smaller things being easier to achieve.

But sometimes that focus can backfire too, because smaller isn’t always easier - especially when it comes to the Law of Attraction!

One of the problems with “small” manifestations is that you really don’t care about them one way or the other. As we all know, the Law of Attraction is activated by your thoughts, emotions and beliefs. How much emotion can you generate over a cup of coffee? Little emotion = low energy.

Personally I love coffee, so I can definitely feel emotional over it. LOL :-) But, do I need to manifest it? No. I’ve got some right in my cupboard; I can make a pot whenever I want.

I’m not trying to pick on this popular advice because the coffee isn’t the point, I know that.

But I want to offer some alternative advice for people who can’t seem to manifest a cup of coffee, a blue feather, or whatever other small thing they’re focusing on: GO BIGGER.

On page 95 of The Secret, Jack Canfield shares how he spent most of his early life feeling limited and focused on lack. He says, “It was only when I met W. Clement Stone that I began to shift my life. When I was working with Stone he said, ‘I want you to set a goal that’s so big that if you achieved it, it would blow your mind, and you would know it’s only because of what I’ve taught you that you would have achieved this goal.’”

Canfield went on to set a goal of earning $100,000 in a year - quite a huge jump from his existing $8,000 yearly income!

According to Stone’s instructions, he spent time each day visualizing his goal already achieved. He made a fake $100,000 bill and stuck it to the ceiling over his bed so it was the first thing he saw each morning upon waking. Whenever he saw that bill, he visualized having a $100,000 a year lifestyle.

Through a few strange, nearly miraculous events (synchronicities!), and of course some focused action on his part, he ended up earning $92,327 that year. Does that mean it didn’t work? Do you think he really cared about the other $7,673? I’m guessing not, especially since he’s gone on to make hundreds of times that amount since then. :-)

I see a few BIG lessons in his experience:

1) First, choose a goal that is SO MASSIVE that it would impossible to do it all on your own.

2) Believe, believe, believe it’s possible for you.

3) Don’t try to figure out “how” to do it on your own - let the universe help you.

4) Keep your vision alive by imagining that you already have it. Feel good - not “needy.”

5) Don’t worry if it all doesn’t work out *exactly* like you imagine. Most likely you’ll end up with something very close - maybe even better.

Law of Attraction and Therapy - Bad Mix?

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Yesterday I got an email from a woman who is currently working through some emotional trauma in therapy, and she came across my Law of Attraction ebook. After learning about the power of thoughts and emotions, she emailed with a heavy question:

Is therapy a bad thing when working with the Law of Attraction?

Does focusing on all those negative emotions attract more negativity into your life?

I’ve been asked that question before and I don’t think I’ve ever addressed it here on this blog. My answer might surprise you.

I am a HUGE FAN of therapy when it’s done in a healing, conscious way.

It’s true that the Law of Attraction is activated by your thoughts, emotions and beliefs. Logically it seems like re-living painful experiences from the past in therapy would bring up “negative” emotions and therefore trigger the LOA to create more painful experiences in your life.

But it doesn’t seem to work that way. At least in my own experience it hasn’t. And I have a good idea why that is.

There’s a big difference in INTENT when you’re working through negative emotions in therapy, or being locked into them in your daily life experiences.

In therapy, you are making a conscious choice to bring up repressed, unexpressed emotions, work through them and release them. You’re coming from a place of power and moving yourself into a place of healing, wholeness and peace.

Compare that to being the victim of negative thoughts and turbulent emotions in an unconscious manner.

Big difference!

When it comes to the Law of Attraction, it’s important to “feel good” but it has to be REAL feeling good. You can’t fake it.

Repressed emotions never die. The harder you try to squash them down the more they’ll keep popping back up when you least expect it and make your life hell. You get locked into a cycle of feeling bad, trying to avoid feeling bad, and then feeling worse because you can’t stop feeling bad! ;-)

On the other hand, if you consciously and purposely work THROUGH heavy emotions, you free yourself from their influence. You process them and let them go. They no longer weigh on your heart and mind.

I spent two years working with a wonderful therapist in the mid-1990’s, and it was the BEST thing I ever did for myself. I was able to work through some childhood issues, emotional blockages, self-doubt and fear that had been holding me back for years.

I still remember at the beginning of my therapy journey, my therapist kept encouraging me to talk about my traumas and pain - and I wanted to avoid talking about them as much as possible! ;-) I kept changing the subject when we got into heavy territory, and she’d gently ease me back to the pain again.

Finally I got mad and demanded, “WHY do you keep making me talk about this stuff? It just makes me sad and I start crying!”

And I’ll never forget her response: “Because there is healing in the telling. The more you talk about it, the more you’ll work through it and eventually it will lose its power over you. These experiences will eventually just become part of your past rather than influencing your present.”

I didn’t believe her at that moment, but she was right. All that talking set me free. I can now think back to those old experiences - or even talk about them - without a hint of tears or sadness. They’re in the past, and that’s where they will remain. I spend most of my time looking forward now. :-)

SO - after that long ramble, my point is that therapy will NOT negatively impact the Law of Attraction in your life. If anything it will HELP because you’ll be releasing underlying emotions and beliefs that constantly work against you!

Amazing things happen when you release the pain and embrace a journey of healing. Don’t be afraid of that; it’s a journey that will change your life.

Create a Happy Day :-)

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

Do you tend to let your outer circumstances set the tone for each day? Do you allow other people and events to trigger feelings of anger, frustration, impatience and more?

When you do this, you are not using the power you have available to you! By using the Law of Attraction, you can turn every day into a great day. One way to do that is by using intentions and visualization to create your day.

When you first wake up in the morning, spend 10 minutes or so thinking about the types of things you’d like to experience that day. How would you like your workday to go? What kind of people would you like to meet? Would you like to receive some great opportunities to advance your career or financial situation? How would you like to feel for the majority of your day?

Grab a blank journal or notebook and jot these details down! Once you’ve gotten all the details written down, spend a few minutes vividly imagining each scenario in your mind, exactly as you would like it to happen. Pretend you’re watching a movie in your mind, seeing it all play out exactly as you’d like it to.

Most importantly, allow yourself to feel as if they were actually happening now. Immerse yourself in feelings of excitement, joy, happiness and gratitude as you enjoy one great experience after another. Use this same process for every experience you’d like to have that day.

By the time you’re finished you should be feeling fantastic; buzzing with good spirits and high expectations!

Then continue with your normal routine, taking special care not to be “attached” to any specific events or experiences, just simply staying open to whatever comes. Keep affirming that great things are going to happen to you that day, and you feel great about all of the blessings and abundance in your life.

At the same time, avoid getting entangled in feelings of worry, anxiety, frustration, and anger as much as possible throughout the day because those feelings will interfere with the positive energy you’ve already put out.

As often as you can remember, call to mind images of the things you visualized earlier and allow good feelings to flow over you again. Affirm and know that wonderful things are happening, even if you don’t see them quite yet.

By using this process on a daily basis, you’ll eventually start to notice that good things are starting to happen. You’ll find yourself being in the “right place at the right time” and generally enjoying greater opportunities and abundance.

Whatever else you may do today, be sure to SMILE! :-)
