Time for a Mailbox Love Affair? :-)

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

Several years ago, I developed an irrational fear of my mailbox. At the time I was struggling through severe financial difficulties, and it seemed like each day’s mail delivery brought new “horrors” in the form of mounting bills, late notices, shut-off notices, and general bad news.

Eventually I learned how to turn that trend around and begin attracting greater prosperity into my life, but I was surprised to discover one day that I still clenched up in fear and anxiety every time I went to check the mail - or even walked past my mailbox! By this time I was well-versed in the power of the Law of Attraction when it comes to abundance, so I knew that my waves of mail-related anxiety weren’t serving me - in fact, they threatened to send me right back to the Land of Lack!

I decided it was time to have a “love affair” with my mailbox.

Each morning when I awoke, I’d visualize my mailbox bursting with checks, gifts, and good news. I’d imagine myself feeling lighthearted and happy as I went to check the mail, and jumping excitedly up and down as I received my abundance each day.

Before I went to check the mail each day, I’d be sure to get myself into a state of joy and enthusiasm for the “goodies” that would be delivered that day - even if I wasn’t sure what the day’s mail would hold. I made sure NEVER to check the mail when I was feeling tired, irritable or lack-focused in any way.

The result? It was like a tidal wave of goodness came crashing into my mailbox! I started receiving unexpected checks, rebates, free gifts from companies I had purchased from before, and so on. I even received an unexpected refund from my insurance company because I had overpaid without knowing it!

All of this great stuff just came rushing forth because I altered the energy I was emitting regarding my mailbox. Rather than attracting negative things, I began attracting more positive things - even things I couldn’t possibly have imagined!

Has your mailbox developed an ominous aura too? Do you cringe when you reach for your mail, worrying about the latest “horrors” that await you?

It’s time to turn the tides of lack into a tidal wave of prosperity!

Here’s how to do it:

1) First, as described above, begin visualizing your mailbox holding only GREAT stuff! Imagine receiving unexpected checks and gifts in the mail, and feeling calm and confident about any bills you receive. Know that you always have enough money to pay them. Create a warm glow of peacefulness and joy when it comes to your mailbox. Do this every day until you no longer feel anxious or fearful about what the mail will bring.

2) Before you go check the mail each day, be sure to get yourself into a state of high, strong, positive emotion. Generate feelings of excitement, joy, happiness, and love. Allow yourself to feel calm, peaceful and confident that the mail will hold only good things each day.

3) If you do happen to receive something negative (like a collection notice or a bill you can’t pay yet), be SURE to stay CALM about it. Simply affirm that it will all work out for the best, you will have the money to pay your bills on time, and so on. Avoid investing any negative emotional energy to what you don’t want (more lack)! Stay with your positive emotions, no matter how much willpower it might require at the beginning.

4) It’s also helpful to open “gateways” through which prosperity can enter your life, if possible. As I described above, the universe can find plenty of ways to deliver greater prosperity into your life, both expected and unexpected! However, your results may be quicker if you take action to help the process along. Possible gateways might include: buying a lottery ticket, applying for a better job, entering contests, sending in rebate requests for recent purchases, and so on.

5) Give it time to work. Remember that you’re constantly experiencing a residual effect of your previous thoughts, emotions, and expectations so don’t be surprised if this process takes a few days to turn around. However, know that it CAN turn around immediately too! It all depends on the intensity of positive energy and belief you devote to it.

Remember, what you focus on EXPANDS! The more positive thoughts and emotions you can direct toward your mailbox - or any area of your life - the more positive results you’re going to see there.

How well do you know prosperity?

Friday, October 5th, 2007

Good Friday morning!

Phew, I don’t know about you but I’m glad this week is almost over. It was productive and good, don’t get me wrong - just busy. Sometimes I wish there were three of me. Or twelve, even. ;-)

I’ve just put the finishing touches on a new article that will go out in Monday’s Newsletter, but I’m posting it here first since I’ve been slacking on my blog posts this week. Enjoy!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

“Knowing” Prosperity

One of the more challenging aspects of learning how to attract prosperity is the ability to “know” you’re prosperous - even when you don’t yet feel like you are!

When your outer circumstances keep reflecting the illusion of lack, it’s easy to get frustrated because you think your attraction attempts aren’t working. However, that very frustration is what will keep you locked into the cycle of lack!

In order to break out of the illusion of lack, you have to use the power of your will to diminish the energy you have invested in it previously. How do you invest energy into the creation of lack?

  • By constantly thinking about it and focusing on it.
  • By constantly affirming that it exists in your life.
  • By complaining about it to others.
  • By identifying with the lack you see in the world around you.

The more attention and energy you give to the existence of lack, the more lack you attract back to yourself.

The good news is that you can also use this same process to attract abundance and prosperity into your life, except you focus on the opposite end of the spectrum!

  • Constantly think about and focus on abundance and prosperity. However, NOT from a place of need, fear or anxiety - but from a place of joy, confidence and optimism that it is already yours.
  • Constantly affirm that you are a natural prosperity magnet, and great abundance flows into your life easily and frequently.
  • Share the wonderful things that happen to you with others. Rather than complaining about the bad stuff, share the good stuff and encourage the people in your life to do the same.
  • Pay attention to the great abundance that surrounds you at all times. This includes the material possessions, people and blessings you have in your life, but also the expressions of abundance you encounter while out in the world. Rather than feeling envious of rich and successful people, imagine that the universe has just held up a mirror to let you know that YOU can also be just as rich and successful.

Most importantly, develop the inner “knowing” that you can CHOOSE prosperity and abundance, just as easily as you chose lack and struggle.

You may not believe that you’ve chosen lack and struggle (who in their right minds would?) - but it’s very possible to choose by default. Unless you consciously choose to be prosperous, it’s like sitting in the back seat of your car and expecting it to deliver you to your desired destination. You actually have to get behind the wheel and DRIVE! :-)

Try reciting this affirmation several times a day:

“I KNOW I am a powerful creator in my own right, and I CHOOSE the harmonious flow of prosperity and abundance NOW.”

When you first start saying it, you’ll probably feel like you’re lying. That’s because deep down inside, you really don’t “know” any such thing. But keep at it. Keep saying the affirmation with strength and power and conviction in your voice, and you really will start to believe it.

And that’s when everything in your outer circumstances will begin to shift toward the prosperity and abundance you “know” you deserve.

Wendy Betterini has been a student of the Law of Abundance and the Law of Attraction for several years, and she shares her insights on natural prosperity attraction frequently through her writing. Learn more about natural prosperity attraction at http://www.ProsperityVisualizations.com

Affirmations to Attract Abundance

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

What is abundance? Most people think of money when they hear the word “abundance,” but that’s not the only expression of abundance. The dictionary defines abundance as: more than enough; amply sufficient.

This can apply to money, no doubt about it. But it also applies to every other area of your life. In fact, some people would argue that having an abundance of money and lack everywhere else will make you miserable. ;-)

What does abundance mean to you? What would you consider to be “more than enough” or “amply sufficient”? How would you like your life to change from what it is now? What do you want your relationships to look like? Your health and well-being? Your career? Your financial situation?

Get a clear idea of ALL of these things before you start trying to attract more. Clarity is important because when you are very clear about what you want, you will find it much easier to attract!

Otherwise it’s like walking into a restaurant and saying, “I’m hungry. Feed me.” Your server needs to know WHAT you want to eat. ;-)

Once you’ve got a clear idea of what you want in all areas of your life, craft some simple affirmations that you can begin saying on a regular basis. Here are some good examples:

  • I effortlessly attract plenty of customers for my business.
  • My relationships are growing deeper and richer every day.
  • I love my life, and live with passion and joy.
  • My body is transforming into a picture of total health and wellness.
  • I always have more than enough money for everything I need.
  • The universe is always guiding me to my highest good.

Now, just saying the words is a good start, but it’s also very important that you begin to BELIEVE them. Affirmations can be very powerful but first you’ve got to get past your own limiting beliefs!

I’ve got a free e-book that goes into a lot more details about this, and I also highly recommend Why Most Affirmations Fail by Jennifer Shepherd.

Once you understand how affirmations really work on your mind, you can make huge progress on overcoming inner blockages to wealth – no matter in which form you want that “wealth” to arrive!

Law of Attraction, Money & You

Sunday, September 2nd, 2007

Yahoo has an interesting video clip on their homepage today, featuring a man who describes the bad things that has happened to him since he won the lottery.

He doesn’t necessarily attribute these things to “bad luck,” but he does seem to think that these things wouldn’t have happened if he didn’t have all this money.

Very interesting!

You hear stories like this all the time, how receiving a large sum of money can practically destroy people’s lives.

SO MANY people believe that a lot of money would make all their problems go away.  Rarely is that the case, no matter what those problems consist of.

I think it boils down to one thing:  your relationship with money.

If you have a healthy relationship with money, having a lot - or a little - won’t cause problems for you.

If you have an unhealthy relationship with money, having little - or a lot - will cause nothing BUT problems for you.

Ask Yourself This Powerful Question

I once read a super question that changed my view of money forever.  I wish I could remember where I read it; it was either in a book or an article online.

Anyway, the author asked:  If your relationship with money was a personal relationship, how would you describe it?

Hmmm, good question!

I had to think about that one for awhile, but when I finally wrote down my answer, I was shocked.

Here’s what I wrote:

“My relationship with money is mostly one-sided.  I’m the clingy partner, always grasping and needy and never able to get enough of my partner.  My partner is constantly trying to get the hell away from me because no one likes to be smothered.”

WOW - go back and read that again!  Does it also describe YOUR relationship with money?  It probably fits a great many people.

Once I realized how desperate and clingy I was being, I learned to step back and let money come to me instead of pursuing it all the time.  And it did.  And it continues to.

This is powerful stuff folks, try it yourself.  Treat money like you would treat another person in a relationship, and watch how it transforms your life.

Abundance is intelligent; it has life and feeling - and it wants to be with you, but not if you’re always hanging on it like a dead weight.  ;-)

Developing a Prosperity Belief System

Friday, August 31st, 2007

If you’ve spent a fair amount of time in a lack mind-set, you may have developed underlying beliefs that perpetuate the cycle – keeping you stuck!

How do you know if you have a belief system based on lack?

  • You still struggle financially no matter how hard you work.
  • There never seems to be “enough” money for the things you need and want.
  • Even when more money comes into your life, your expenses seem to increase in proportion.
  • You feel envious of people who seem to attract abundance easily.
  • You feel trapped by your financial circumstances, with no way out.

There are several ways to change your beliefs, but one of the simplest is by repetition and reinforcement.

Remember, your lack beliefs are simply thoughts that have been processed through your mind so many times that they have become “fact.” The same intense repetition of an abundance belief will be needed to turn it around.

Here’s how:

Start believing in limitless possibilities. Affirm daily: “I am open to the endless opportunities for abundance available to me.”

Replace worry with faith. Affirm daily: “I am blessed with constant abundance and joy. I always have more than enough of anything I need or want.”

Be willing to receive. Affirm daily: “I am open to receiving the abundance that is rightfully mine. Thank you for the many expressions of abundance in my life.”

Most importantly, turn your attention AWAY from thoughts of lack.

  • Don’t get anxious about money.
  • Don’t obsess about what you don’t have.
  • Don’t give your energy to frustration or impatience.

Detach and let it come naturally by shifting your thoughts and emotions away from lack and toward abundance – one thought at a time! :-)

The Last One

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

In my house, there is an unspoken rule: never take the last one. Of anything.

The last bagel, the last serving of milk, the last slice of cake, the last ear of corn . . . it will sit there and rot before anyone will take it for themselves.

I’ve seen this at parties and gatherings too. Guests will eat all the appetizers you place in front of them - until there is only one left on the platter. Then everyone is mysteriously too full to eat another bite. ;-)

It’s an attempt to be courteous, of course - don’t hog it all yourself, leave some for others. Our mothers taught us well.

What a metaphor this is for the way we relate to abundance and prosperity too.

We feel guilty receiving money or other forms of abundance. We deny the things we really want because we feel greedy even asking for them. We worry that the more we take, the less others will have.

You can probably guess what I’m going to say: THERE IS NO “LAST ONE”. There may appear to be shortages, but lack is an illusion. It’s all in our minds.

If you feel greedy about accepting more abundance into your life, there’s a great antidote for it: give more.

Greed and generosity cannot co-exist in the same place at the same time.

The more you give, the more you’ll receive. The more you accept for yourself, the more you’ll have to give.

I’m giving you permission to take the “last one,” because I know that more will be arriving shortly. When they do, take the platter and pass them around. There is plenty for everyone. :-)

Self-Fulfilling Prosperity . . . or Lack

Friday, August 24th, 2007

While I was out running errands yesterday, I passed a car with a distinctive vanity license plate. It read: “IM BROKE”.

I couldn’t help myself, I gasped in horror!

Why would a person label themselves with such a dire self-fulfilling prophecy?

If there is one thing I’ve learned in life, it’s that our beliefs are VERY powerful. If you keep affirming that you’re broke, guess what’s going to happen to your financial state?

Even when we’re not actively focused on a belief, it keeps playing over and over in our subconscious mind. I can imagine that the woman who was driving this car frequently finds herself in difficult financial straits. Maybe she’s not completely “broke” all the time - but repeatedly has unexpected expenses popping up all over the place, keeping her in financial limbo. She might get a little bit ahead, and then get pulled right back to her chosen status of “broke” when something goes wrong.

I say “chosen status” because we really do CHOOSE the circumstances of our lives. What we believe, and what we devote most of our focus to is what we will experience!

Why would a person do that to themselves?

Very often, it’s not that they WANT to choose this kind of self-fulfilling prophecy - it’s that they don’t realize they HAVE a choice. They think they have no control over their situation, so they accept it and never even try to turn it around.

Having said all that, it’s entirely possible that the driver of this car was just trying to be funny or flippant, and isn’t really “broke” at all. In fact, the car she was driving was nice enough. Definitely not a junker. I couldn’t help but wonder what the rest of her life looks like.

Still - even when we joke about something, there is usually a seed of truth lurking beneath the humor. Think about that for a moment. If you didn’t believe something was even a little bit true, you wouldn’t say it at all - not even in a joking manner.

We’ve got to be VERY CAREFUL about the things we say to (or about) ourselves, because it eventually becomes self-fulfilling prosperity . . . or lack.

If you want to joke about something, joke about how wonderful you are. Joke about your “adoring fans” or the wealth that’s on its way to you. Joke about how your life is blissful and easy and meaningful. Joke about how you are the luckiest person alive and you can’t get away from the goodness that constantly flows into your life. Even as you kid about this stuff, you are planting seeds for the reality to be born. :-)

As for me, I think I’m going to get a new license plate for my car. I’m thinking along the lines of: “IM BLESSED” or “EVER JOYFUL” or “A POWERFUL AMAZING DYNAMIC CREATOR IN MY OWN RIGHT.” That last one might be too long, unless I buy a stretch Hummer. LOL

What about you? What would your self-fulfilling license plate say? Choose wisely, and then display it proudly. :-)

Three Phases of Manifestation

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

WOW, what a whirlwind couple of weeks it’s been. I’ve never been busier - or flying as high as I am right now! :-)

As I wrote yesterday, I released my “new baby” (ebook) and the response has been really wonderful. What I find most funny is that by the time I finished it, I didn’t even CARE what response it received - I was just overcome with the glow of achievement!

God it felt good to do something I’ve wanted to do for years and years and years!!!! For the past few months I’ve been doing a LOT of introspection. I’ve been questioning why I hold back on so many things I want to do, why I let excuses get in the way. I know I have the ability to do these things, but I keep finding stupid reasons not to.

I’ve finally acknowledged that there is no better time than NOW to do the things I want to do. Really, what was I waiting for anyway?

And that leads me to the point of this blog. I write a lot of articles and blog posts about the importance of getting started. I’m constantly going on and on about taking one little step toward your dreams and allowing the universe to meet you halfway.

So many people are afraid to even START moving toward what they want. They keep waiting for some vague, perfect moment when they’ll know it’s the “right” time. But if they don’t begin moving forward, that time will never arrive.

I’ve done it myself too. But more recently, I’ve gotten blocked in another way. I’ve gotten really good at starting - but not so great at FINISHING. At this present moment, I have no fewer than FIVE ebooks in various degrees of completion on my hard drive. I keep starting them but not seeing them through to the end.

Time to change that. Yesterday I rediscovered the joys of achieving a long-held dream, and I don’t think I could hold myself back from doing it again. ;-)

So, what does this have to do with the title of this post? The Three Phases of Manifestation are all EQUALLY important when you are trying to bring forth something into your physical reality:

1) First, there’s the start. That’s when you conceive the dream and begin taking a few steps toward it.

2) Then comes the importance of FOCUS and CONTINUITY. You have to discipline yourself to keep working at it, day after day - even when you don’t feel like it.

3) Finally, you have to be willing to COMPLETE it. This involves two things really: putting in the time and effort to wrap it all up, AND the ability to know when to call it good. I’m a terrible perfectionist sometimes, and I think this book could have been “finished” way before now. LOL At some point you have to be willing to stop perfecting it and just let it be.

I could go on and on about this subject, but I’ll save it for another time. For now, just know that if you have a dream you want to manifest, give equal attention to those 3 steps above and it will become your reality sooner than you think!

Now go manifest your dreams! ;-)

Top 10 Prosperity Tips

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Good morning! :-)

I’ve got a very exciting announcement to make:

MY EBOOK IS FINALLY FINISHED!!!!

I have been working like a crazy person on it for weeks because I really wanted it to be just perfect before I released it.

But I am so PROUD of this little baby, and I’m eager to push her out of the nest and let her fly on her own. You can find more details on the book below.

Before I get to that, however, I thought it might be fun to share some Prosperity Tips with you this morning. Since that’s the subject of my book, why not stick with the same theme for the week? :-)

Top 10 Prosperity Tips

Living a prosperous life is about much more than just having enough money. In order to be truly prosperous, you need to change your total mind-set from lack to abundance. You need to make a mental and emotional shift and start living your life on a more abundant level - in all areas!

Below are my top 10 tips for doing that:

Prosperity Tip #1 - Do What You Love
When you spend time doing things you really love, you automatically feel happier. When you feel happier, you emit more positive vibrations, and attract the things you want more quickly and easily! Start spending more time doing the things you really love. This can include hobbies as well as transitioning to a more fulfilling career.

Prosperity Tip #2 - Affirm You Always Have More Than Enough
The more you focus on lack, the more lack you will experience in your life. Turn this around by constantly affirming, “I always have more than enough money for everything I need.” The more strongly you can come to believe this, the more your physical surroundings will shift to match your expectations.

Prosperity Tip #3 - Take Action
Action isn’t always necessary in order to attract abundance into your life, but it sure doesn’t hurt. Don’t sit around waiting for your circumstances to change - get out there and change them! Taking even one small step toward what you want can often trigger a flood of opportunities and synchronicities that get everything moving in a more positive direction. At the very least, taking action can boost your confidence and make you feel more in control of your circumstances.

Prosperity Tip #4 – Gratitude and Appreciation
An appreciative mind-set makes everything seem better. Not only do you feel more abundant, your very focus on the positive aspects of your life will naturally attract more things to be grateful for. Make it a daily habit to appreciate the wonderful things that happen to you - even the small things. The more you do, the more you’ll find good stuff flowing into your life as if by magic.

Prosperity Tip #5 - Love, Love, Love
Love is one of the most powerful, transformational forces. It can heal the most painful situations, transform lack into abundance, and inspire positive change in both the giver and receiver. Practice flowing feelings of deep love for everyone and everything in your life. Love your blessings, your friends and family, the difficult people you encounter each day, and even your illnesses and obstacles. When you love them, you heal and transform them into genuine blessings.

Prosperity Tip #6 - Boost Your Self-Worth
Your beliefs have everything to do with the things you experience on a daily basis. If you don’t believe you deserve abundance, you will continually push it away! Start improving your self-worth and affirm constantly that you deserve to be happy, healthy and wealthy. When someone tries to give you a gift or compliment, accept it with gratitude! The more you do this, the more you will open yourself to the blessings the universe wants to send your way too.

Prosperity Tip #7 - Make Room for More
If every nook and cranny of your life is crammed with clutter and disharmony, you’ve got no ROOM for prosperity to come in! One of the quickest ways to get abundance flowing more smoothly through your life is to clear a space for it. Get rid of physical clutter and release painful emotional burdens and unresolved issues. Clean up your physical, spiritual, emotional and financial affairs, and watch how easily they are transformed from stagnant to vibrant.

Prosperity Tip #8 - Change Your Beliefs, Change Your Life
Besides poor self-worth, you may have other limiting beliefs that keep you from experiencing the prosperity you deserve. For example, do you believe you must work hard to receive a lot of money? Do you believe that rich people are rude and insensitive? Do you believe that having a lot of money would be a burden? Learn to examine and question your beliefs about prosperity - and change the ones that limit you. This is an ongoing process that can change your life in powerful ways.

Prosperity Tip #9 - Fire Up Your Abundance Radar
You’ve probably heard it said that whatever you focus on expands. Prosperity is no different! Get into the habit of seeking examples of abundance wherever you go. When you’re shopping, pause to notice the abundance overflowing from store shelves. Each one of those products began with a simple idea in someone’s mind and was created in physical form! Take a trip to your local farmer’s market and marvel at the abundance of produce available. Each one of them was started with a tiny seed planted in the ground and nurtured until it grew into a luscious fruit or vegetable. Take time each day to reflect on the abundance you see all around you, and you will attract more of it (in all forms) into your life.

Prosperity Tip #10 - Positively Abundant
Positive thoughts and emotions will automatically attract more positive circumstances into your life, including prosperity! Negative thinking is nothing more than a habit of looking at the less favorable aspects of every situation. But every negative situation has at least ONE positive benefit. The more you can train your mind to look for the blessings and remain open to possibility, the more blessings and possibilities you will see! Start a new positive thinking habit today and watch how it transforms you into a magnet for everything good.

There are many more ways to attract greater prosperity into your life, but these tips offer a simple way to get started.

Abraham Lincoln once said, “Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.” The very same thing could be said about prosperity. Make up your mind to be as prosperous as you want to be . . . and your perception of reality will have no choice but to comply with your wishes.

Law of Attraction, The Secret and Wealth

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

In my travels around the web this morning, I stumbled across an article that contained a negative review of the February 8th Oprah show about The Secret.

The author asks: “Is The Secret just about getting money, losing weight, having better sex or finding your “soul-mate?” While I was watching the February 8th Oprah Show I received an email that said it was a shame that The Secret was all about getting money. The emailer was looking for a more “meditative experience” and was disappointed.”

This is a common argument that I’ve seen and heard repeatedly since The Secret’s debut. It does raise a valid point: that money isn’t everything and doesn’t necessarily guarantee happiness. With that, I can agree.

But at the same time, a question always comes to my mind when I see these types of arguments: “What’s WRONG with having MONEY?”

There are two basic points I want to cover regarding this topic today:

1) “The Secret” is NOT all about money, sex and losing weight. Anyone who has seen the movie might recall mention of abundant health and wellness, the importance of gratitude, and the choice to feel good as often as possible. Regardless of our financial status, sex life or body weight, focusing on being healthy and happy can drastically improve our quality of life!

If you haven’t seen the movie yet, don’t believe that it only covers money and material possessions. It’s a guide to creating more happiness and joy in your life, and that can certainly include more money, a better job and a thinner body.

2) Negative comments about money and possessions usually reveal one thing about the commenter: the belief that there is something wrong with being wealthy or prosperous.

Like many others, I was raised to believe that I didn’t need much. If I had a steady job and was making enough to get by, then I was doing good, and that’s all I should expect.

Thankfully, I’ve altered that belief. I decided I wanted to do more than “get by”. I wanted to create a life of ease and comfort for myself and my loved ones. I wanted the freedom to spend my days doing something I love, rather than trading hours for dollars at a job I didn’t like.

And as I’ve written many times before, when your core beliefs change, so do your external circumstances! :-)

Here’s another way to look at it. Ask yourself what you believe your life purpose to be, and which circumstances would allow you to fulfill that purpose in the best and most effective way.

In my situation, I know I’m here to write and share my words with others. Could I still do that if I was living in a cardboard box under a bridge? Sure! I don’t need money to share my words with others. Well, except that I wouldn’t be able to afford a computer, or an internet connection. If I tried to share my words with others in print rather than online, I’d have to find a way to afford paper and perhaps a manual typewriter. (or a notebook and pen?) Not to mention that I’d be spending so much time trying to forage for food and warm clothing that I’d have less time to write.

You get my point.

Perhaps the author of the aforementioned article doesn’t desire wealth and riches. That’s fine! Really, just like there’s nothing wrong with being rich, there’s nothing wrong with living a meager lifestyle - as long as it’s done by conscious choice.

Feeling powerless over your circumstances and yearning for something better serves no one. Choosing to take control of your creative power and direct it in ways that improve ANY aspect of your life is a good thing.

Want a deeper spiritual life? Want to feel joyful and content on a daily basis? The Law of Attraction can help you do that, and more.

It’s all about getting clear about what you want, and choosing to attract something better, whatever that may be.

P.S. Happy Valentine’s Day!! :-)

Frugal Living vs. Law of Attraction

Monday, July 31st, 2006

The other day I stumbled onto a frugal living website. I’ve always had a leaning toward reusing, recycling, and reducing waste wherever possible. I’m not fanatical about it, I just try to do my small part here and there where I can.

As I browsed articles on this site, I started thinking about the Law of Attraction again. Isn’t frugal living kind of in opposition to the Law of Attraction in some ways?

Think about it. If we’re always focusing on how NOT to spend money, guess what we’ll start having less of? Money! Personally, I’ve never been one to bargain shop or clip coupons. Not because I don’t believe it’s possible to save money that way, but because it takes too much of my time. I’d rather pay more for something if it’s more convenient or gives me more of my most precious commodity - time.

As far as the Law of Attraction goes, shouldn’t we be focusing on attracting/creating more money so we don’t HAVE to live so frugally?

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that we can’t reduce waste and protect our planet’s resources if we practice the Law of Attraction. We can, and we should! There’s nothing wrong with recycling, or keeping your own garden, or using solar power to heat your house (actually I love that idea!). We should certainly keep a household budget and a savings account, make long-term investments for our future, and so on. In fact, the savings and investments aspect is wonderfully in line with the Law of Attraction because “like attracts like.” If we save money, that money attracts more money. That’s a good thing.

I’m referring more to the “lack mind-set” of frugal living rather than the activities themselves. The belief that there “isn’t enough” so we have to be careful how we use our limited resources.

Why should we focus on getting by with less when we could be attracting more and eliminate the struggle altogether? Not just for ourselves either, because the more we have, the more we can help those in need.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this one! :-)

Seeking Freebies: you get what you pay for

Friday, May 12th, 2006

I find it interesting when people seek something for nothing. No, I’m not referring to free product samples of shampoo, or appetizer samples handed out freely in the grocery store aisles.

I’m referring to people who purposely try to get a valuable service or product…without paying for it.

Maybe because your neighbor is a hair stylist, you begin going to her salon because you think she might cut your hair free of charge. Or your coworker is an artist and you ask her to do a portrait for your parent’s anniversary, expecting a large discount (or even freebie). Or you meet a lawyer at a party and begin soliciting free legal advice. Or an acquaintance is a tarot reader and you contact her to ask for advice, hoping she’ll offer a free reading.

What’s the problem with these situations? You are expecting something for nothing.

Money is a form of energy, just like everything else in our world. And with all forms of energy, there needs to be a balance in some way. By trying to get these products/services for free, you are in essence telling the universe that they are not worth paying for. When you don’t see value in something, you will receive nothing valuable from it.

I’m not referring to someone being truly in need of help. I’m referring to those who can pay, but choose not to.

Just like that old saying, “you get what you pay for.” — You also get back what you put out into the universe. If you give nothing, you will likely get nothing in return. Even if you do recieve products and services for free, they will mean nothing to you. You won’t appreciate them. They won’t add anything of value to your life.

Here’s how to keep positive energy flowing in your life. Be generous. Be giving. Be kind and compassionate. Give of yourself as often as possible. Expect to pay for anything of value, pay well for it, and pay gladly. Respect the time and expertise of those who can provide a product or service for you. Understand that their time and attention has value. Be glad that you can exchange money for something you perceive to have value.

If someone gladly OFFERS a freebie, certainly you can take advantage of it. But don’t expect it. Don’t seek it.

Let the energy of abundance come into your life, AND flow out in equal measure. That is a true blessing. :-)

Seven Principles of Prosperity

Monday, October 31st, 2005

As most of you know, I write frequently about prosperity and abundance principles, and the power of creative thought. I have seen some wonderful changes in my own life since I began my practice of these techniques, and I’ve observed equally impressive improvements in the lives of those around me. But how exactly do we do this? How do we create something out of nothing?

Perhaps you’ve had some measure of success but still can’t seem to really get where you want to be. This was my experience for years. I would practice the techniques for a time and have some success with them, but then my life would revert back to what it was before. I couldn’t seem to sustain lasting change. Has this been your experience also? There are often inner blockages that keep us from manifesting the true wealth and prosperity we desire.

So I began thinking more about these abundance and prosperity principles, and I questioned why I had had such limited success with them thus far. What was I doing wrong? Was I meant to struggle in life? Or could I really create what I wanted? I browsed back through some of my journals where I had written on the topic, and eventually, an obvious truth began to emerge. Then several truths. How could I have missed this?

Once I realized what I had been doing wrong, I decided to try doing things differently, correcting the “errors” I felt I had been making. The results were nothing less than astounding. Within a week, the universe had gifted me with a contract for an ongoing, well-paying freelance writing job, which is exactly what I had asked for.

What did I do differently to make this happen? Why was I not able to create this in my life before now? And will I be able to continue this “good luck” streak? If you have read this far, you obviously have an interest in this topic, and you are likely wanting to achieve similar abundance, prosperity and growth in your own life. Below are Seven Principles of Prosperity that I used to create positive change in my life. I encourage you to try the techniques below, and see if they can help you to manifest your true heart’s desires. I will also continue using them and report on any further success. :-)

1) What do you REALLY want? - I’m embarrassed to admit this, but I haven’t exactly been specific in my petitions to the universe. I kept affirming that I wanted a generous income and fulfilling work, but I didn’t clarify exactly how much I wanted to earn, and in what form I wanted the work to arrive. That’s like walking into a restaurant and telling our waitress, “I want food.” What kind of food? How much food? Hot or cold? Would you like a beverage also? What condiments would you prefer with your meal? Many of us are vague in our desires. We know the general result we’d like (an end to financial difficulties, a better job, etc.) but there are many more facets to consider.

First things first. We need to have a pathway for the prosperity to enter our lives. In my case, the pathway is my writing. It’s my greatest passion, and it’s the way I wanted to earn my living. For you it might be business management, or hair styling, or baking. It is possible to earn great money doing something other than what you truly love, but too many of us make the mistake of settling for something less and we never reach the true fulfillment we yearn for. We say to the waitress, “I’d really love a steak, but that’s not possible, so I’ll have a tuna sandwich.” The waitress may raise an eyebrow and wonder why we think a steak isn’t possible, but she won’t try to talk us into ordering one. She’ll just bring us a tuna sandwich. It’s her job to serve us by bringing what we ASK for. The universe works in the same way. You may dream of being an artist, an actor, or a doctor, but you don’t think you have the ability or talent for it, so you pursue a field that seems more possible for you. But by doing this, you are turning away from your dream. If you have a deep desire to do something specific with your life, you WILL be given the tools and resources to make it happen. But first you have to believe it’s possible. Even if you can’t imagine how it could be possible right now, be willing to suspend your disbelief.

So the first big step to take is to get really clear on what you want, and ask for it. Don’t be vague. Don’t ask for something less just because you don’t think your true dream is possible. Ask for EXACTLY what you want. You can do this aloud, or write it down on a sheet of paper. Or both. But you need to “place your order” with the universe. Be very specific in the things you say. For example: “What I REALLY want is to be a successful sculptor, creating work that is fulfilling and meaningful to me, and I want to work no more than 25 hours per week, and earn at least $40,000.00 per year.”

A special note about the amount of money you ask for: You may be thinking that asking for a massive amount of money (like millions) is better than asking for a modest amount of money. I advise against doing that, at least at the beginning. If you really do have blockages that are preventing you from creating what you truly want in life, you will find ways to hold yourself back from it if your dream makes you the least bit uncomfortable. For most of us, the thought of actually manifesting millions of dollars in our lives seems too impossible. Instead, try setting your sights a little bit lower at the outset. I’m not suggesting you ask for less than you truly need or desire, but I also don’t want you to bite off more than you can chew and sabotage your efforts in the process! Remember, if you are able to manifest a reasonable amount of abundance right now, you will gain confidence and be able to focus your efforts on greater abundance later.

2) Be willing to sacrifice for your greater good. - In last week’s newsletter, I wrote about my infected tooth, and how strange it seemed that this developed just when I was trying to focus my thoughts on abundance and prosperity. I pondered whether my infected tooth was simply a representation of some deeper issues that were playing out within my psyche. I know that seems like a big jump, but bear with me. The human mind is still a great mystery, especially the subconscious mind. It is very possible that I had some blockages that just wouldn’t allow me to move forward until I processed them in some way; purged them from my system, so to speak. Just like our outer circumstances can affect our health, so can our inner beliefs affect our physical reality. Maybe the tooth was completely unrelated to my prosperity experiments. That’s entirely possible also. But the point is that sometimes we DO need to sacrifice what may no longer be serving us, in order to gain circumstances that do serve us and more closely resemble our dream. Take a few moments to think about things that may no longer be serving you, and ask yourself if you are willing to release them. As I described last week, this can be any number of things: stagnant relationships, too much idle time, or not enough discipline. Or perhaps your “sacrifice” is simply to take a chance on something you want, rather than holding yourself back out of fear. We’ll go more into that in a moment.

3) Affirmations and intentions. - Now that you have a clear idea of what you want and you know what you’re willing to sacrifice, it’s time to begin stating your intentions to the universe, in the form of affirmations. Affirmations are positive statements spoken aloud (or at least mentally, though verbally seems to give stronger energy). Basically you are taking the “I Want” statement from above, and turning into an “I Have” affirmation. In other words, state aloud that you already have what you desire. Using the same example, you’d say, “I AM a successful sculptor creating fulfilling and meaningful work. I work no more than 25 hours per week, and I earn $40,000.00 per year.” No, of course your mind isn’t going to believe this right away, because it hasn’t happened yet. But by saying it aloud repeatedly, you are training your mind to believe it’s possible, and attracting the right energy to make it happen.

You might also include some generic affirmations because they help reinforce what you’re trying to accomplish. Here are some that have helped me: I am wealthy. I am blessed. I attract abundance and wealth. I deserve abundance and prosperity. I can achieve anything I desire. Anything is possible. Say these aloud several times a day. Write them in a journal, over and over. Write them on a sheet of paper and post it up where you will see it during your day, and say these phrases out loud as often as you can.

4) Practice consistency. - Here is where I went wrong for so long. :-) I was really good at saying my affirmations for a day or two, but then I’d slip back into my whining and complaining voice, and undo all the progress I’d made! In order for affirmations and intentions to really work, we need to keep working them. We need to retrain our minds to think positively, rather than negatively. The only way to do that is by repetition. Say your affirmations as many times as you need to. Positive thinking is just like anything else, practice makes perfect. The only reason you feel stuck in negative thinking patterns now is because you (or your surroundings) have reinforced them for so long. You can change it though, moment to moment.

5) Active faith. - This is another one I had a difficult time with. Faith is a challenging concept when things around us seem so dark. How can we believe that things will get better when we have no assurance that they will? Ah, but that is the very definition of faith! To believe in something you cannot see. How can we create positive change when we have so much working against us? By using what I call “active” faith. This means affirming that things will be okay, even if you don’t know for sure that they will. Ironically, it often requires you to state the exact opposite of what you truly believe. Let’s use an example: You have been struggling financially and you are trying your hardest to create more abundance and prosperity. Then one day your electric bill arrives in the mail, and you see that it is much higher than you expected it to be, and you don’t have the funds to pay it. Your first reaction would be to cry, scream or sink into depression and wonder if you’ll EVER be able to create better circumstances. But practicing active faith would instead have you look at that electric bill and then say aloud with passion and power in your voice, “I don’t know how yet, but I WILL acquire the funds to pay this bill on time. I affirm it, and I intend it to be so. God (or universe), I know you will help me to find a way to make this happen. Thank you!” And then allow yourself to feel thankful that a solution is on the way. Don’t fret about it, don’t let yourself get tense or anxious. I know, this takes a tremendous leap of . . . faith! Yes, exactly. :-) I must be honest, this technique has worked for me every single time I’ve used it. The problem is that I kept forgetting to use it. Give this technique a try, even if it’s on smaller things first. Keep practicing this type of mindset, choosing to believe that success and abundance is right around the corner for you, even if you can’t see any possible way for it to happen yet.

6) Be willing to try and accept. - How often do you hold yourself back from trying something because you don’t believe it would do any good? I think most of us block ourselves from success before we can even get started! Perhaps we don’t have faith in our own abilities, or we feel we’re not talented enough, or experienced enough, or deserving enough. If we don’t believe we have what it takes, and if we don’t believe we deserve to achieve our dreams, then we definitely won’t do it. Imagine standing outside a restaurant and saying to yourself, “Boy, I’m hungry, but I bet they wouldn’t serve me anyway, so there’s no point going in.” It sounds laughable, but yet we are doing the same thing to ourselves if we refuse to even try. So in addition to changing your thoughts, be willing to TAKE ACTION! Apply for a job, sign up for a class, do something to make a move toward your dream. Even a small step will begin to open doors for you. Guess how many long-term freelance jobs I’ve applied for in the past? Zero. Guess how many I got? Zero. Only when I applied for a long-term job did I actually receive one. Hmmm.

When your prosperity arrives, embrace it with joy, even if it arrives in a form you weren’t expecting. Keep affirming aloud each day, “I accept the blessings the universe holds for me now.”

7) Patience, timing and acceptance. - I do believe that timing has a lot to do with the achievement of our dreams and goals. Perhaps I wasn’t ready for a job like this until now. Perhaps my employer wasn’t ready to hire someone like me until now. There are many factors we can’t control, and timing is one of them. If we’ve reached the point where we’ve done all we can possibly do, then the wait can be maddening. But rather than sinking into frustration and despair, we can keep practicing active faith and affirmations, which continues to lend positive energy to our vision. Keep repeating to yourself, “I know this is going to happen for me, I just know it will. And it will happen soon, I’m so excited!” Keep infusing your energy into your dream to give it power to manifest. And lastly, work on accepting your current circumstances. Acceptance does NOT mean you choose to remain where you are forever. It simply means that where you currently are is exactly where you need to be in this moment. I know that’s a tough pill to swallow if you are in unhappy circumstances. But be willing to believe that there may be a reason for it. Perhaps you are there to learn patience, or humility, or to be strengthened by your struggles. Accept these lessons with grace, while affirming that they will not last forever.

It is my deepest wish that these principles will work for you as they have worked for me. I want to hear from you, whether you have questions on something I covered, or you have success stories of your own to share! Have you used other techniques to create something wonderful in your life? Tell me about it.
